my intro. new to Honda tech
Hello, thought I should just sign up for the Honda tech web site seeing that use it a lot and I have some input on the questions asked. I live in southern Ontario and have been into cars all my life. My first car was a 240sx, sadly I lost that car because of a dumbass driver hitting me. Then I had a 98 civic si with D16y8 Sohc, great car but no ***** at all. I sold that car and now I have a 08 chevy Colorado z71.
Last winter I was able to pick up a 93 prelude with H22a swap for 800$. The engine and trans run amazing but it leaks a bit of oil from the back of the block ( oil cooler o ring im guessing). The body of the car was in a accident (that’s why I got it so cheap) the door and the rear drivers side qurt panel was all bashed in. I got a new door and ive almost got the panel popped back out, I’m just waiting on getting a welder to fix some spots.
As for the engine, im planning on taking it out, putting in a new clutch and throw out bearing, delete the balance shafts, throw in some cams, headers, intake, exhaust, chip the ecu, and clean the hell out of the engine bay.
Im looking forward to this build and chatting with you guys about it, when I get more time I will try to post some pics.
Thanks!!

welcome! got any pics of the lude, as well as the 240 you speak of??? i have a soft spot for 240s!!
the chassis is fine, drives straight and no wobbles from the back wheel. I drove it home from where i bought it for about 45mins down the hi way. This what i got popped out so far. I just need to get that last kink out of the door frame and weld some of it back together. My new door lines up just fine still with the latch.

I'd get rid of it, the rear quarter and rocker are totally fucked. That's not a panel you can just replace, the rust I can guarantee is much further spread than you can see.
Most insurance companies would consider a car with that kind of rear quarter damage to be totaled. To fix it you'd have to completely cut it off and find another car to transplant it from.

Bondo=ghetto.
My car had some rust on the roof around the windshield, fixed it right, sandblasted all rust away, cut out and welded new metal in.

That's good to hear, most wouldn't take on something with that much damage though, nearly that entire panel will need to be replaced.
Since you have the H22 and it runs i say that was worth the $800 along with the rest of the car. IMO keep the car, just go find another whole lude. You can find the sohc ones w/ super high miles or blown engine all together for dirt cheap. Then just combine that lude and the new one. You would have enough parts for a pretty clean lookin lude then.
Just my 2cents. I just see people spend hundreds on repairs making it look factory again. I would rather start with a nice body lude instead, and spend hundreds of dollars on aftermarket parts making the lude better. Either way good luck, if it works kudos for keeping another lude on the streets.
p.s. Bonda isnt to be used on more then like 1/8" deep dent. Bondo isnt bad but when people cake it on too thick, even if you do everything else right. It will start to come apart and look like crap, its not a replacement for body work.

Yeah, you shouldn't really have any real attachment to this car, you just randomly found it, you could probably find another shell for cheap, swap the engine and just put all the best parts on the new car. Then with the rest you can make some money back by selling parts.

Spend another $1000 on a good body lude, who cares about engine. swap in your H22, and part out what you dont want. You could take that money from the other car and put it towards most of a engine rebuild. So for not crazy much more invested you could have a clean bodied lude with a fresh engine.
Yeah man, from someone that does paint and bodywork, just get a shell!! If u want twenty reasons why just tell me to list them but looking at that pic I can tell u right now noway would I fix that when u can get a shell for under a grand! O yeah if u did weld a new quarter u will still have "bondo" aka bodyfiller
its nice to see some one save another tore up lude. i hate seeing these things get scrapped.
Are you serious?... Thats kind of a dumb question if you read the whole thread.... Its to show how much work goes into replacing the quarter panel on a 4th gen lude. The "exact" spot and side he needs to replace. I didnt think it needed any explanation...
Hey man your tone is all wrong, yes u did need to explain the video because I felt that this video was for humor not an educational video at all. If anyone besides sparkman thinks this is how u fix your rusted out quarter- it's not. The only thing sparkman was right about was that this hack in the video showed u how much work it is when u work harder and not smarter. U will learn from this video- 1. Man in video is a hack, 2. Man in video works harder not smarter. 3. Man in video is lazy, how hard is it to throw a welding blanket over the glass. Lol hope he enjoys all the welding pits, lazy man how hard is it to remove the wheel? Lazy man drill the factory welds out and weld a new or used quarter in at the correct spots! Sparkman I've been wrong before and will be again in life but u were disrespectful to me and that my friend isn't cool, cause I know a little too much about body work. You obviously don't! O buddy remember their is no dumb question. Lol
Calm down turbo... "and the point is?" Your tone wasnt exactly coming off very friendly or purposeful either.
My point was to show how much would be needed to be removed since damage was similar. Obviously these guys are not professional. Im not even suggesting copy as he does, it was a video I stumbled upon late at night while searching for something else. This is not a DIY video, just a idea of how much BS someone might go through without proper equipment. Which goes along with everything else ive posted.
He said he's waiting on a welder, so obviously he isnt a professional either. So im sure its safe to say he doesnt have the proper tools for this task. Ive been trying to persuade him not to attempt this himself, and buy another shell from the get go . I dont know who you are or your background, just as you dont know me, or mine. Theres no reason for us to be arguing.
