Hello, I have a 94 Civic EX and my blower motor resister is broken. One of the coils has been split.
However, the blower motor does not work on any of the 4 speeds(if the motor is working, it should spin when speed is placed on number 4 I think...), so I went ahead and checked if the motor was working. It is in fact working, I connected it to a 12v 7.5a battery and it spins just fine.
So I am really confused now. I have a working motor and a broken resistor(only one of the coils is broken, yet it doesnt work on any of the speeds.)

Also, the resistor gets EXTREMELY hot, not sure how hot its supposed to run, but it gets bright red from the heat and fumes start to come out when i set it to speed 1.

So, what are my possibilities here? Do I have something else broken? I know it isnt the fuse, because I have checked that already. Is there a way to replace or repair the coil/spring resistor?

You can always get a resistor pack from the scrap yard for cheap. You may also run a jumper to the 2 legs where the broken coil is attached, at least you will have 3 speeds working for the meantime. Unplug 2 pin connector of blower motor and verify that you have both 12v and ground respectively. Get yourself a factory service manual and follow the diagram.

The coils gets really hot when they are energized. Do not run it for a long time while its outside the blower housing.

I will try to find a civic in a scrap yard to salvage a resistor from...
Also, I will post some images of the broken resistor, and if its not too much to ask, maybe you could give mee a detail explanation on how to jump it and what I need.

The broken coil connects to a solid terminal at each end. Just run a wire to connect the two terminals. Trace the circuit as you probably have more problem than just the resistor. You might want to test the other coils for continuity. Sometimes the break in the coil is not visible.

 

Oh, alright, I thought I had to buy a resistor and solder it in, or something like that.
I wiggled the other 2 resistor coils around, very carfully, and they did not separate, which means they are ok I think, right?
