Help! I've had issues with my 81 Prelude flooding. The car sat for a few years and had ethanol gas in the tank. The original carb flooded to the point that I had gas in the oil. I replaced the carb with a remanufactured carb from a reputable dealer. I still have flooding problems. The plugs get soaked with gas when I try to start it. Any ideas from anyone?

 

sell the car and buy a updated prelude.

 

It sounds like you might just need to adjust the float level. Did you do that on the new carb? If it's too high, it will flood the car. There should be a sight glass on the carb that peeks into the float bowl that you want the gas to be in the middle of, and there should be an adjuster screw on the side of the carb.

junk it and get a weber redline.it will work right out of the box and only 1 vacuum line.

 

Better yet sell the car, buy a barn-find Daytona Coupe, sell the Daytona for an enormous profit, re-purchase the 81 Prelude, purchase a 2002 S2000 and transfer the entire running gear into the 'Lude thereby making it rwd. Enjoy the hybrid monster until the chassis snaps then purchase another non-flooding 81 with your left over Daytona payout.

Or you could take the carb off and check your jetting. Flooding can only be so many things...most common would be carb jetting issue, carb leaking, fuel pump over pumping.

its an old car. it sat for years for whatever reasons the OP didnt want to drive it. why keep it? id sell it.

sentimental reasons? get over it.

i have my opinion. he came here asking for help and i gave my advice on what i would do. you give urs on how to fix it. mine is just faster/permanent way :]

I checked the carb and float/fuel level is fine. Fuel pump pressure is at 2 pounds. Could there be an electrical issue causing the carb to flood? I'm beginning to think that it is since the new carb is doing the exact same think as the old carb.
