replacing head gasket 2 questions?
97 accord f22b2 im replacing the headgasket and had 2 questions ....1. im trying to remove the coolant drain plug on the block is it necessary to break that bolt, r can i just use the radiator drain plug and be ok? 2. whats bolts are necessary to break when removing the exhaust manifold down pipe . thanks for the help.
You should be able to just remove the exhaust manifold bolts and pull back the exhaust manifold after removing the heat shield bolts. You don't need to remove the coolant drain bolt and drain the coolant, but if you want to you just need to make sure the threads are dry and add some rtv to the threads before reinstalling.
No, but if you want, you can just remove those three flange bolts and just unhook the downpipe from the manifold. Just buy a new flange crush washer(or two if your car has two). When you reinstall the pipe to the manifold again just be sure to tighten the three bolts in several passes ever so slightly to ensure no leaks. The crush washers are designed to crush so that there are no leaks similar to what a oil pan drain bolt crush washer does.
