Junkyard compressor: 1992 civic Compatible years & makes?
On some sites it says 1992-2002
On others it says 1992-2002 EXCEPT 1996 (wha?)
On others it just says 1992-1996.
Also do ONLY civic compressors fit? Could I find a newer compresssor out of an accord or something else that will fit?

Can you explain in more detail or post a picture? Rock auto shows the same part number for both compressors.
I have a 1996 d16z6 in my 92 body and the compressor lines matched up perfect. (evacuated the r12, flushed, and refilled with r134a) I'm about to just head to the junk yard with my compressor pulled off and report my findings.

Seems plain enough to me
It's not as simple as what you have on your hands.
For instance.
"You can put R134 in R12 systems but first you must perform a retro fit. To do this you have buy screw on adapters to hook up 134 gauges. you must change the compressor , accumulator or drier and expansion valve or orifice tube. (Depending on which of these your system has) Also you must flush the system to get the old R12 oil out. Then you put a special oil for retrofitting called ester oil. Then you can use R134 in your system. If you don't change the components and just put the R134 in the system it won't cool properly and will ruin your compressor and your metering device(orifice exp. valve). Also your accumulator or drier will be ruined."
