Cleaning B18C5 Valve Cover
What do you guys typically do to wash the red valve cover? I noticed that dirt and grease doesn't come off easily. Mine's pretty clean, but I'm just picky. Is there a certain kind of soap that works well?
Also, does anyone know if a touch up paint if available?
Thanks.

I find simple green powerful enough to just use a normal cloth even on the toughest oil stains. Speaking of which, there is always oil stains by my oil cap...is my oil cap seal defective or is this normal?
I just have the normal OEM plastic oil cap (for now).
yeah, simple green works really well w/o harming the paint. I use a regular 2-3" house paint brush to get into all the nooks and crannys to work the simple green around. scotch brite sounds a bit harsh. rinse off with cold tap water. like new
Hey Parker, I think I remember you too. I have some pics up on our club site, but that's down for the week as we're trying to find a new server. If you email me at eric.lee@gm.com then I can tell you more about it!!
And guys, thanks for the suggestions. My Corolla 4AGZE valve cover has no paint, so a little scrubbing and polishing does the trick. I honestly don't know as much about the ITR because I have a Toyota background...I need all the help I can get.

I used scotch brite on my entire valve cover because simple green wasnt enough to take the deep staining out. The scotch brite does take a smidgen of red off of the surface, but the stuff is pretty thick and it would take a long time to sand all the way to bare metal.
This is the result after simple green AND scotch brite. you be the judge
And by the way, simple green and scotch brite work ******* wonders on the block and anything cast.

Simple green works good but it leaves a white residue all over the cover, it kinda looks like its dry and needs lotion so I threw some amor all on the valve cover, is that good for it? I'm sure it'll just burn off anyway.

Screw cleaning, just buy a new one.
