ITR Differential Bearing ?
i checked out the integra differential bearings available from carland acura, and apparently there are different part #s for the ITR and GSR pieces. are they interchangeable? is the ITR bearing any better than that of the GSR? (i know that the diffs themselves are interchangeable.) just asking, since the ITR one is a bit more. i have a 98 jdm itr tranny, and messed one of the diff bearings (the one holding it into the case) when i pulled the diff (for a quaife).
funny how the helm manual directs to just simply pull it straight up and out of the case. after some prying with a few screwdrivers, and finally picking up the case a few inches off of the ground solely by holding the ring gear (still on the diff), i whacked the housing loose with a soft-rubber mallet; multi-whacks required; bearing spins a bit roughly.

They used to be the same. Sometime in 98 they switched to a std carrier bearing
instead of the tapered bearing. Civic SI uses the same bearing as well if i remember
right. If you are changing the diff you should just get new bearings anyway.
FYI, if the diff got stuck coming out, it wasnt being pulled straight.

thanks guys. as far as pulling it straight, i asked ChrisJ on this board who has pulled several diffs, and he said that some are harder than others, and don't pull right out even if pulled straight. he suggested gentle prying with the flathead screwdrivers, which seem to have helped loosen it.
Hmm.. I'd swear I spent about $50 a pop for the diff bearings. I was surprised when I bought them, they're definetly not cheap. I switched out to the standard non-tapered bearings as well. I do agree though, if you're changing the diff you might as well change the bearings. You should probably check the other bearings as well while everything's apart.

I'm reassembling a tranny right now, and when the new OEM LSD diff is in place and spun as fast as I can spin it by hand, the bearings make a noise as if they are not lubricated well enough. It is a non-tapered type. The bearing itself feels tight.
I tried putting in my original open diff and spinning it to compare, and its roughly the same, a little quieter.
Is this normal or should there be nearly NO sound when you spin a diff in the casing?
