General Advice Y7/Y8 Build
Starting From Scratch: Planning
I took my engine out recently and am doing a very cheap rebuild.
Is there any place in Connecticut to get your parts clean?
I have the engine in pieces and would like to know what I should bring to the machine shop and what should I get checked and cleaned?
D16y7 Head Cylinder
D16y8 Short Block
D16y8 Intake Manifold (Block Air Injection)
I am not buying any new parts for this build at all unless necessary to complete.

What exactly does this rebuild entail?
I suggest you get a field service manual if you don't have access to one already.
I don't foresee this going well.

He doesn't even say WHY he's rebuilding it.
Oh. I remember. You're the guy that, with the help from some guys off the street, put together an engine without a torque wrench or any field service manual.

Okay so I have
Car = Honda Civic 1999 Coupe EX Single Cam VTEC
Intake Manifold - D16Y8 / 1999 / Stock Vtec / Air Injection JB Welded
Cylinder Head - D16Y7 / Year Unknown / No Vtec
Short Block - D16Y8 / 1999 / Stock Vtec
Transmission - Automatic
SO..
Short story is the D16Y8 short block had spun bearings.
So I paid some guys off the street to put fix some things.
A used nice crankshaft from a D16Y7 went into the D16Y8 plus new bearings.
Took 2 rods and pistons from D16y7 Installed into D16Y8.
Put new crankshaft key in last after I put back on the plate.
I put 5 huge bolts into the Tranny to connect it to the D16Y8.
Dropped the whole engine into the car and then the problems started...
*I couldnt manuelly turn the crank to bolt 8 screws on the drive plate.
*I got 2 screws in but wasnt able to turn it at all.
*Plus my automatic shifter wont go into Park or Reverse with or without key or with or with out battery.
*I know for a fact the guys had no Torque Wrench

Better yet, just get a new motor. Take that nightmare you have and "learn" on that one. Might as well get a new transmission while you're at it. Make sure both are still attached and have a shop install it.
I guess that's something he should ask himself and stop querying about why the transmission isn't shifting. The whole drive train is messed up.
Im asking rebuild questions and your suggesting a new motor ( engine )
thanks but yes I took the engine and transmission out and the Cylinder Head, Short block and transmission are all separate on the ground.regardless of the previous problems I am ready to clean and get things checked at the machine shop to start a rebuild. Yes I have the manual and a torque wrench.
"What do I need to get cleaned"? hmph.
Take everything to the shop. Even if everything is sitting on the floor the engine is still in the hacked up state it was when you botched the original rebuild.
Yes. Because even with a manual and a torque wrench, it's glaringly obvious this is beyond you. And I think you asked if getting a new engine was an option in your original thread did you not?

Excellent! And I guess during all your "How to rebuild an engine" research you might have just missed the thread where the guy rebuilds the entire engine from top to bottom? If you had done some searching to educate yourself and not joined just to ask questions you would have seen it and pretty much most of your questions would have been answered. Lemme know if you need a link to it.

Kinda looks like that.
With no torque wrench. And you keep leaving out the part where you mixed and matched engine parts, a no-no, and then couldn't reassemble everything properly. That's the same block you have sitting on the floor with the same mismatched pistons still in it with a possible scored crankshaft. That's how I know this is beyond you.

You ask for advice. just like everyone else that has screwed up a build, and don't like what you hear. Sorry. From experience I can see this going badly.
Do yourself a favor, save yourself some time and effort and get a replacement engine and install it. Like I said before, take that busted jigsaw puzzle you put together and learn on that.
Did you bother to look at the thread I linked to? At the very least, stop posting and look over the engine rebuild process, in the manual you say you downloaded, and get familiar with what an actual rebuild entails. Anything else needs to be discussed with whatever shop you plan on using.
