OK all I have a 1999 civic dx that the trans is going out on, I also have a 1997 civic ex that everything is falling apart except for the motor and trans. what I am wondering is will the 97 trans fit right in my 99?

 

If it's a 5 speed, yes. It's geared better for accelation too. If it's an automatic it'll bolt up and work, but it will shift a little weird and it will throw a CEL (P0715)

 

Ok so they are both automatic, how bad will the shifting be and what is a CEL (P0715)?

 

Ehhh, it's different. It will start out almost normal, and it wont throw a CEL right away, but it will just shift progressively worse the more you drive it.

Check Engine Light. If you have any state emissions testing it wont pass with this transmission, it throws a code for a mainshaft sensor IIRC due to having a different 3rd gear ratio. The PCM thinks the trans is slipping.
