Default Brake Issue

So, I just picked up a 96 si a few months ago and it already needs brake work. Problem is I went to the part store and got what I thought to be the right brakes. Got em home, tore everything down only to find out the pads are about a half inch short. Took em back to the parts store in a rage and then realized they hadnt really f'ed up. What they gave me were what were listed for my car. Same size across a few different brands too.

Now, here's were the confusion starts. The car I have is a standard. The pads that "look like they will fit" are from an automatic. Could someone have dropped in the calipers from an auto before I bought the thing? Are they a direct bolt-on like that? Is there any visual way to tell the two apart (auto/manual) If I just buy the pads for an auto, they should just drop right in without issue?

Btw, first time poster. Will be back again. Site looks awesome!

Thanks
-Chris

1. This is the wrong forum. You should be in: Honda Civic/Del Sol (1992 - 2000)

2. Unless you have a Canadian model (CDM) you don't have a 1996 SI as they didn't make SI's from '96-'98

3. There shouldn't be any difference between brake pads for a manual and auto tranny. You may have calipers from a different model.

4. More than likely it's an auto to manual swap. Track the VIN to see if it came with an auto.
