brand New front upper ball joint is stripping - Bad spindle?
Hey everybody..
I'll start by stating the reason I replaced the ball joints.
For the last 2 months my car has made a "clunk" going over bumps. I wanted to figure out what it was so I reached behind the wheel and I was able to wiggle the upper control arm up and down just a little bit. I knew this wasn't good, so I replaced the upper and lower ball joints.
After replacing the ball joints the car felt solid... for about a day... the next day the clunking came back. I parked the car at home and went straight to the upper control arm. The damn wiggle was back.. so I removed the crown nut cover and noticed that the nut was not tight... I thought maybe it didn't seat right, so I removed the cotter pin and went to tighten the nut, to realize that it was not even threading.. I looked at the nut to find NO threads...
I'm curious what you guys would think could cause this? could the previous movement from the bad ball joint cause the spindle to get worn where the ball joint connects?
Any advice or information would be really great. Thanks guys.
