Heelp, 91 honda civic.
Rough idle
limb mode (safe mode)
super slow acceleration
smells like un burned gas
Misfires
Spark plugs turn all black after a day
ecu code 9, even put a new dizzy on and still throwing it

 

Is it overheating? Does the oil smell like gas or look watery? I'd check and make sure you don't have a blown head gasket first since that can cause major damage if driven on very quickly.

Check timing if you have an old belt, it's not unheard of for a loose belt to skip a tooth or two.

When did it start happening?

 

It overheated once due to a leak in coolant but i drove it home about 10 mins total. but it was doing this before that and did not overhead. and a blown head gasket would cause white smoke correct? i dont have any smoke coming from thee exhaust.
I drove it alright for a day then it got shitty then another day and it got woree

 

and if im right the oil smelled gassy. ill double check tomorrow

 

I have an adjustable cam gear, to check if the belt possibly skipped a tooth or two could i i adjust the adjustable cam gear? Not sure if that's how it works never messed with it

Your oil should not ever smell like gas. If it does, you have a seal or gasket not doing it's job, may just be really bad plug seals, but if it's overheating and smells, then I would still lean towards head gasket with the info given. I don't think it sounds like wiring issues.

 

what did you do to the car before this happen..?? check your firing order, timing and/or change out the spark plug wire..

 

nothing i bought the engine put it in and it's been like this. but at first it wasent as bad, it just got worse and worse. i have new fuel filter, injectors, spark plugs, wires. and yees check the fireing ordere

 

timing may have skip.. bring back to TDC see if that help..

 

What motor is that im assuming its a y7 or y8 can't tell
What ems are you running obd0 or obd1 what ecu what kinda car is it exactly (STD DX Si)

Test the two distributor sensor wires and the sensor itself. If they're fine, then the ECU may be bad.

 

New from a store? Or a used one that is new to you? Where did you buy the new dizzy from? Any friends with the same engine that you can test your distributor on?
Check wiring from distributor to ECU and make sure it's all in good order.

If code 9 clears and prob still occurs,

First thing I would go for is verify all spark plugs are working.
With engine running, pull off a plug wire and see if the engine stumbles any. If it does, then replace the wire and then move to the next wire. If any of the wires don't make the engine stumble, then you have something going with that cylinder. Make sure that wire is getting spark. If it is, then do a compression check.
Compression check should be done with all 4 plugs out before doing the testing - can get false results if headgasket is leaking between cylinders.

Easy to check too - remove upper belt cover and rotate the crank to TDC. See if cam is zeroed. Make SURE your adjustable cam gear is for the engine you have. TDC marks are sometimes different. Use the stock cam gear wouldn't be a bad idea since you aren't even using any adjustments.

Not always. Only when the gasket breaks so that the water makes it into the cylinders.
HGs can break so no water or oil makes it into combustion chambers, but 2 chambers leak into each other - easily detectable by pulling all spark plugs and doing compression check. Water can also break into oil causing oil to look like chocolate milkshake, but not get into combustion chamber.

Only way that could be possible is if your rings were really really bad and fuel in the combustion chamber was getting pushed past the pistons and into the crank case. Compression check would show this if it were so.

 

will try timming belt. also new problem, stalls now as soon as i engage the clutch. ( it's not me not knowing how to drivee) no matter how light i come in and give it gasit stallis

 

Code 9 is an electrical problem, not a timing belt problem. Code 9 will make the engine run like crap.

 

So i checked and oil smells fine. My timming belt is fine it's a TDC >.<

 

Bump. Still having the problem. Got a new dizzy also and still getting code 9 and car still runs like ****

 

um check the wires from the dizzy to the ECU and the connector plug dizzy codes with a new dizzy are probably wiring

Hey guys, still not running. I rewired the car and no more CEL, great right. Not really it's still running the same but not flashing codes so now i am really confused... More info from inspecting everything. Spark plugs are chard black ( not enough air or something ) Num #1 cylinder does not get hot as the other exhaust pipe. Any ideas at all... New dizzy perfect timming. What could it be

 

i kno this one i kno this one its your jumper harness one or two wires might have to be jumped in with another..or false contact we can meet do you stay near oceanside ca i just fixed this issue to my ef
