Icon2 ABS light on occasionally? Brakes grinding?

Hey all just a quick question about something that's been bugging me for a while. My ABS light occasionally pops on for the how ever long the car is on. Also, my brakes have been..."grinding"? I'm a new driver so I'm not sure how to describe it. But they're well, grinding lol sorry I can't be more descriptive. Should I be concerned and take it to a shop or is this something that I can tackle myself? I realize it's hard to answer without seeing or feeling the problem. Thanks in advance!

grinding in your brakes typically means you've worn down past the working pad part.

Does it grind in the front or rear? You'll know.

It can't hurt to take your front wheels off and inspect the pads. If grinding is taking place you'll probably want to get new rotors and pads. you could have your rotors turned possibly but that's typically more of a hassle than just getting new ones (my opinion).

brake jobs are one of the first things I learned to do on cars. it's not terribly too hard but it's always something you don't want to do wrong.

Well I had taken it to pepboys before I read your responce and they said the front brake s are fine but the rear are wearing thin. But it feels like the grinding is coming from the front. Any ideas?
