Hi guys - sorry its not a Honda, but hopefully there's a few who'll find this interesting on here. Hopefully you'll be able to give me a little feedback on various parts of the project - I've never taken on a build this big!




I've been working on the car in this spec for a couple of months now. It's a 2008 Ford Fiesta (I don't think you got this model in the states?), I've had it from almost new and we've been through a lot together

Here's the engine and box mounted up on place:







Then some proper mounts made:





Had to make some bushes for the engine mount, as neither the ford or mitsubishi mount was any use:









The lower torque link was a bit more tricky, as it had to pick up both the front and rear of the gearbox:

 

The front crossmember needed some modification to make room for the transfer box. Few pics of the mods. This is probably only temporary - I'll make a proper cradle when I have more time, just needed the car back on it's wheels.



















Crossmember is now fully boxed in, but I don't seem to have a picture of it finished!

 

Now on to the manifold. Still not finished, I decided to put it on hold and crack on with the rear suspension and diff cradle.

In the last week I've mainly been concentrating on the rear diff cradle:

The last picture is actually set up at ride height. I'll be running the car pretty low, but have allowed for this in the mounting of the diff and positioning of the inner wishbone mounts. Should still end up with a pretty high roll center height overall.

A view from underneath now it's mounted on the car - just adding the final bits of bracing, then onto the wishbones and all that..




Some more. Four bloody hours to add two bracing bars :lol:











Just had it on the scales - weighs 13kg. Still a few kilos of stiffeners and mounting points to add though. Can't see it topping out over 20kg.

That's all I have for now, though I'll do my best to keep this updated if there's any interest!

Never seen that kind of Fiesta before, the headlights make it look like the bastard child of a Focus and Honda Fit.

It's our mk6 Fiesta - built from 2002-2009. It originally had a 150whp 2.0 Mazda MZR (called Duratec in the Ford) and was great fun for what it was.

It's so nice working with a new-ish car. Normally my projects are over 20 years old and I have to spend more time fixing rust issues than anything else. This is all nice clean, solid metal for a change!

Then pulled it off again to fully weld and add the final bits of bracing:




I think the front end is going to get the same treatment now, I want to sit the car on the deck as low as possible, so will need to sort the front crossmember out - may as well start again with it :lol:

Very very cool project.

 

Small step backwards today - bolted everything up at the rear end, but decided to make a few changes to the cradle. Currently the car rides at 160mm from the lowest point to the floor. If I alter a couple of bars on the cradle I can drop that to 100mm. Pics tomorrow, all being well!
