CRX Buy?
Hello, im 16 and drive a 1995 pontiac bonneville...sad
I'm looking for a college car (my car has 215639 miles) I like to build stuff and my budget is like $1000...I want somthing that i can fix up and really make it mine. I found this

I have two years left of school and this is what he posted for the listing
90 CRX si with skunk2 springs
short shifter 5speed
Need radiator distributor and body harness motor harness is correct,
Its orange with white doors. May take trades tell me what you
have $900 call or text Josh xxx-xxx-xxxx or call Jim no text xxx-xxx-xxxx
will need parts above first to run!!!
How hard would this be to fix up...im not the type of guy that could do something like that crxguy that completly restored, i just want it to have some street cred and a little speed to race with...(kinda want it to beat my friends grand prix gtp, with a ton! of mods)...?

Yeah but this is litterally 1/3 from where i'm from. I've seen from other posts with the call or text josh/jim numbers and they have a civc turbo for sale, i think this might have been a donor car...anyways im willing to put in the effort to fix the rex up, i just wanna know the price is too much...$900. On edmunds ive searched it and its only worth like $600ish...suppose i could talk him down?
honestly it will be cool and fun but for a college car i would not use really any honda other than a stock accord or a legend for a college car, simply due to theft. you could have fun building this, however finding an hf/si body harness isn't easy

i spent the majority of my highschool years screwing around with cars. unless you have close friends/family who have a lot of years of car building under their belt, or you have some kind of special skills, your budget simply isn't sufficient. your car skills need to mature to a level where you can pinpoint a problem by actually trouble shooting, not playing swaptronics. then you need to have the skills to source parts cleverly. lastly you need the skills to deal with broken, rusted, seized bolts. two of the three things i mentioned also require what I imagine to be a 'significant' investment for you. if your budget is $1000, i don't imagine you have $3000 in tools to play with?
all these reasons are why I would suggest picking a different car. but if I had listened to the good advice other ppl gave me when i was your age, i prob wouldn't have the skills i have now.
that being said, when it was time for college, i had a new car my parents got me and i kept buying beaters for the winter time.
look at twin cam saturns - i own a couple of them, and i've owned two others previously. they are super fun to work on, very reliable, and extremely cheap to buy. not fast by any means, just fun.

Alrighty, I think this last guy has convicnted me...i didn't really think of tools and stuff...shoot, thanks for the help guys, ill just save more a maybe find a better car to play with in the future. Thanks for all the help
Yeah, I live in Nebraska, we don't steal stuff from each others cars, i literally never lock my Bonneville wether im at school, or even downtown for the football game n stuff. and on the same note, i could see it being hard to find a body harness period, not to mention nebraska...
my wagon from a few years back. i still have it but looks a little diff't - got no recent pics though.
the sedans 96-02 with the twin cam engines are really cheap and plentiful; lots of parts at the scrap yards and some aftermarket support. the coupes are even cheaper! i got a 97 coupe with the twin cam, leather, sunroof... for cheap! just rebuilt the head and redid the spun bearings in the bottom end, boom - $1500 bux all in! been driving that coupe for 2 years now in the winter.
looks good man, but im not really a saturn type of guy, more like pontiac, which there are plenty that are cheap, but i don't want another because they just don't give you that good fast feel like a muscle or tuner car can, i wanna car that i can shift in and feel like im in the fast and the furious. Manly looking for a manual car, past that everything else doesn't matter too much, just that i want it to be a 2dr
a friend had a 92 talon tsi, wicked fast when it ran, which was only about 15% of the time LOL engines are stout, handle a ton of power. the same can not be said about the rest of the components on the car - transmissions being the most common and expensive one.
if you like pontiacs, stick with that. get a nice lil sunfure GT and play around w/ it. buy some tools, get some knowledge, when you're good and ready, you can get yourself into a WS6 or whatever...
