Im replacing the inner seal on my distributor and was wondering which way does the seal go in? do I place it in with the "nok" brand face up or down. also in this video I watched the dude had a garter ring along with the seal, I don't, is it important?

 

there's a spring that goes around the inside of the seal which puts pressure on the lip of the seal to prevent leakage...the spring side will be away inside the housing

 

I don't have that spring, will I leak?

 

TBH, it probably will. It should have came with it. Did you fiddle with the seal or something ? It is possible for it to come out with only a little pressure. You should try looking around on the ground and find it. Also, that seal will not work with most aftermarket distributors nor will a spring from one work on yours because they usually vary in size and size of the housing.
