Anyone know a trusted mechanic in NYC to clean EGR ports?
I have the dreaded CEL P0401 EGR insufficient flow on my 99 Prelude. Had the valve cleaned out twice but still came back on after driving 20 miles each time. I think it's definitely the EGR ports from reading other posts made about this issue. I have 133k miles on the car and doesn't seem like those EGR ports were ever swapped so it must be massive carbon build up in there.
Does anyone know a good mechanic in NYC that knows how to clean out the EGR ports on my Prelude? If so, how much are we looking for this job as well?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Clean it yourself, just take off and spray with some brake cleaner, or sensor/electrical cleaner. Thats nothing thats worth taking to a mechanic and forking over alot of money for. Ive seen a few threads on how to clean, I just took mine off and deleted it. Unless you "need" it its not necessary for a working car. Although fyi to delete you will need to have ecu adjusted for not having one, I just deleted all my emissions at once.
I cleaned mine out a few weeks ago, it was pretty easy...... There is a write-up on it step by step here somewhere
What i did was drill small holes just through the ports, screwed a screw thats big enough to catch and hold, then all i did was use the back of a hammer to pry the ports off
then go buy a gun/rifle cleaning kit and some carb cleaner and go to work, remember some of the holes should meet eachother too, and clean out the passage FROM the egr port itself too, that is forgotten sometimes

Also, did you get the port cap replacements from Honda directly or did you use something else aftermarket?
I'm hoping once this is cleaned out, this damn EGR CEL goes away.
Here's the write-up:
