Clutch noise when not engaged
I recently changed the clutch and throw bearing in my 91 CRX HF because the clutch was starting to slip. Now the clutch makes a constant noise when running in neutral or in gear, but when I engage the clutch the noise stops. It didn't make any noise prior to changing the clutch/throw bearing.
The threads I've been reading on the subject offer three possible solutions: throw out bearing, pilot bearing or input shaft. There seems to be a difference of opinion as to which component is failing based on symptoms (clutch depressed or not). Most say pilot bearing if the noise is occurring when the clutch isn't engaged.
I'm having a hard time believing the pilot bearing is the issue because there wasn't any noise prior to changing the clutch/throw bearing, and the noise appeared immediately upon startup after the change.
Is it possible that putting the new clutch on without resurfacing the flywheel would cause one of these other components to immediately fail? I dropped the transmission again and everything looks ok.
At this point I'm thinking I somehow did not get the spring right on the throw bearing?? Could a misaligned spring cause the noise even though it appears to shift fine? Any suggestions?

I feel dumb asking this but it is possible that I just didn't have the clutch cable adjusted properly? Can an improperly adjusted cable cause the throw bearing to ride the clutch splines?
d-series transmissions have a common problem of the input shaft bearing going out. it will make a grinding/chattering noise when in neutral with your foot off the clutch and also when at a steady rpm driving in 1st (all other gears also but first you can hear the most because the lack of road noise) every d-series transmission i have gotten to repair has had a bad bearing causing that noise but all cases are different.
