Hello everyone,
I was doing a search but it seems like the same questions I've asked hasn't been answered, hopefully someone can help.
I'm buttoning up my A/c Swap, a non a/c EG with a R134a swap in it. The first question I have is for the evaporator harness under the dash. My EG has a 2 wire male plug, and the R134a kit has a 3 wire female connector for the thermometer / temp sensor. Does anyone know which wires to splice? and do I bypass the female connector unit on the evap and directly tap into the thermometer?
Also, I'll be getting the a/c system charged by a friends local shop, the system is currently dry and rinsed, no oil no nothing. I have the system all setup , including the belt hooked up to the a/c pump and pulleys, would I be ok to drive around on a dry system with the belt hooked up? or will I ruin the system, OR will i be ok because a/c clutch wont be engaged?
Thanks in advance, hopefully i can stumble on the answer and find some info as well.

The harness with the two wire plug is just short, 2 or 3 feet. You can easily change it with the dash in. Get one from any '94 - '95 Civic.
^ Indeed, if you pull a pigtail for it from a 94-00 Civic it will have what you need. Basically, 2 wires are reused from the 2-wire setup, and the one extra wire taps in to an existing wire in the main loom. Another option is to just mount the old 92-93 thermo on the evap, but I prefer the above method so it's a complete R134a conversion.
As for running it dry, I don't *believe* it's a problem, however you can unplug the harness (near the p/s headlight) to make sure it doesn't engage.

thanks for the info gents, is the 3rd wire on the r134a unit needed ? and where would it tap to? I was thinking of just directly wiring in the 2 wires and going away with the connectors.
also, mechanically speaking, would the pulley on the a/c pump running dry with no oil affect it? i'm hoping not since the clutch isnt engaged.

no you can run it dry as long as the clutch does not engauge. I would atleast unplug the compressor so it will not come on even when u hit defrost. I know in my 96 the a/c will come on automatically.

You still need the 3 wire connector itself since there's no pigtail to cut and splice on thermostat itself, and if you're going to do that you might as well just swap the harness, like I said it's very easy to do.

wish I couldve found one at the time. Oh well. can anyone verify the red circled harness from the car is the one that plugs into the evap thermostat?
Op yes you can drive with it as is... EVEN IF YOU did turn the a/c to the ON position it would do nothing because it is empty and it recognizes that, therefore have no worries that your newly installed said 134 conversion will be perfectly fine while driving.

awesome ! thanks gents!
If I were to get a 3 wire harness, where would the third wire go? would I just be able to leave it unplugged?

Third wire is BLK/YEL I believe. Regardless, whatever colour it is, it can be spliced in to the existing sub-harness for the blower, etc ... just connect it to the same colour wire and you're set. Very straightforward.

Now to track down part 79810-ST3-G21 or 79810-ST3-G01 for a decent price...
