Grimlock
Alighty then, I was suggested to start a build thread on my 1999 honda crv. So that's what this is. The name of the thread is the name of my car, for you Transformers fans out there, you know Grimlock, He king!
Anyway I'll post pictures and updates on Grimlock as he progresses. As of now all that's done is: Black rims, red brake calipers(Yes I went ahead with it) and black headlight housing. That's all!...For now.

Alright so for the first recorded mod I'm doing is the black headlight housing. I made sure to get up early and I'm glad I did. I used a heat gun rather than an oven because I'm not a good cook....Anyway, to avoid headlight stew I used the heat gun so I could have more control over what parts were being heated. I then followed the guide on this forum thanks to Rickashay. As of now I've got the headlights painted and they're drying as I type. All that's left to do is work backwards!
Thanks lol. And don't worry I will. Only waiting on a drivable car to get back so I can get silicon to reseal the lights. Should've thought ahead on that one lol.

If I was to smoke out the taillights would replacing the oem bulbs with leds negate the "holycrapnobrakelights" effect? I think it would look cool but I don't want to sacrifice safety for cool factors.
Looks good with the black housing headlights.I still need to do mine.
You can buy tint film to cover the tail lights, and it's not to dark, so you can still see the lights no problem.
I normally use the VHT tint paint, and put about 5-6 coats on. They get dark, but you can still see my lights as night time no problem. I put LED's in them before to see if it made any difference and it made them harder to see, so I left the normal bulbs in.

Yeah it was a tough one alright. after I got the headlights apart it was a breeze though. And I'm glad to hear you can still see the lights. Would you recommend the VHT paint or the tint? Which one is easier to apply/ more cost effective?
The film is about $20 per foot, and a can pf VHT spray tint is about $20, and you could do both of your likes for cheaper with that.
Just you need to make sure you don't go to dark with it, because it will good black with more coats you put on. Like I said before, I normally go about 5-6 coats, but you put them on lightly. The first few coats will have a green look to them, but by the 4-5 coat it's black.
The film is easy to apply and faster as well, just need to make sure the lights are clean, and that you have no air bubbles in the film once it's on.
I still like using the paint because it's cheaper. I've never had problems with cops about having them like that. I will most likely be doing mine today if I have enough paint left.
Here's a picture of them on my old teg. These had 6 coats on them.

I'm probably going to just play it by ear with the coats. I might go with just 3 coats since my friend got pulled over once for his taillights being too dark. I can't remember how many coats he went with.
Yeah as long as you can still see the brake lights, your still legal, well here in Ontario it is. Thanks. It changed from that picture. I tinted the windows with really dark, so everything was blacked out on it, even all my front lights where lol.
The law is that they have to be visible during the day from 150 meters. trust me...the cops in my town are dicks, we have to know these laws. lol
Here's the tail lights with nightshade on them. They're not that dark in person. I only did 2 coats then a clear coat over that. I think the sun being behind the car made them look darker.
