HELP: more car trouble :(
Ok...i was having trouble w/ the distributor so this past weekend (friday). I took the distributor off and just put a new one on..turned out..my car won't start still. I tried to check to see if the dizzy i just bought works. I unplugged one of the spark plug and plug on a spare on (new) it and try to crank and see fi any sparks on it..NADA. The car was running (starts but runs very sluggish) before I took out the dizzy and not it just stops working. It cranks, but it doesn't want to run. Checked the main relay and see any blown fuse...nope. Then under the dash fuse..nope. What else could be the problem?

nope...not getting spark from the distributor @ all (just checked it). The guy I bought it from (SN: IREV) sworn that it works before he sent it to me
Could it be another bad distributor?

Whats up Jeff.... I think it might be a ground check all of them.... But either way you might need to replace your distributor.... Are you using the right ECU???
Let's see.. You replaced the distributor and that didn't help.. Did you want to check the air in the spare tire too?.. JK... Let's see if I can help you in diagnosing the problem..
So you had no spark with the old and new distributor.. You also replaced the ignitor..
You said that the engine cranks, but just doesn't run.. So we know that the solenoid and the starter work... Now, is your battery fully charged??.. Do an open circuit voltage test on it.. It should read anywhere from 13.8v to 11.6v.. Anything less and you probably won't be able to crank over the engine. Have someone crank the engine and check the battery voltage as it's cranking. Now if possible, go to the starter solenoid and check to see if you've got the same amount of voltage to the solenoid. If not, your problem is between the battery and the solenoid. If you do have the same voltage plus or minus 1/10th per connection move on. Check for voltage leaving the solenoid to the starter. It should be the same. If not, you've got excessive resistance in the solenoid. As for the starter.. I don't remember how the reading from the voltage drop across the starter will affect it starting.. I just forgot.. But I hope some of this helps..

You're positive there's no spark? When my brother and I were trying to get his car running, we went through 3 distributors before finding out that it was due to insufficient fuel pressure - pump was working, but there was a blockage in the line. Might be something to check.
well, after numerous tries of cranking...i smell the gasoline from the exhaust pipe...which means the engine was getting fuel (right?)

Jeff-
yes sir. Battery (-) to Body then to tranny..so it should be grounded..correct?
and i checked it w/ volt meter. Theres current going thru. (12+/- v)

getting any codes at all? did you check voltage at the starter? do you have another dizzy assembly you can try? when you changed the dizzy did you make sure the spring was in the coil making connect in the cap?

take the cap off and make sure the spring is even there first of all .. somtimes they fall out.is the cap and rotor new? did you check your fuse for the starter and alternator? the starter fuse i believe is under the hood and the alternator i believe is under the dash. youshould go through and check them all .. easy with a test light.
Hey, did you do a voltage drop test across the STarter Solenoid?.. Just check for voltage to the Solenoid at the "S" terminal and then check the voltage coming out at the "M" terminal.. They should be the same.. Probably around 10.5V..
I don't know if you said this somewhere but.. When you turn the key to START, what happens??.. Nothing?? Crank Crank??.. Click??..

And when I turn on the car..it cranks..but no sparks (= no start)
Jeff-
The "S" terminal is the small terminal on the side of the Starter Solenoid. It has the smaller wire coming to it.
But here's a quick and easier way to check and see if car will start.
---DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK---
Take a screw driver and CAREFULLY touch the "S" terminal to the "B" terminal. BE SURE NOT TO TOUCH THE SCREW DRIVER TO GROUND OR YOU'LL MELT THE SCREW DRIVER AND MAYBE YOUR CAR. The car should start right up.
If it doesn't, let me know and I'll give you more info.
But if you'd like, just do a search for my recent posts and you'll find a page full of how to test the starter according to what I've learned from my instructor..
