Help! Honda CRV dies while driving!
I have a Honda CRV, 2000, that just dies while going down the road. It's done it to me at 65mph-30 mph. The key will turn over after I get pulled over and stopped, and it will crank like its trying to start but either doesn't have enough gas or enough battery. After about half an hour the car will restart again and rib away without a problem. I have made an appointment for Friday, but I just could really use some help on what this might be. I got HEET yesterday and put it in th gas tank thinking maybe I had water in my lines. Could it be the fuel pump? It's just strange because it will start, and it will drive, but then it just loses the power. The part that isn't making sense is that it starts back up again.
Check to see how much fuel pressure you have. That would be the starting place to check. Should be around 45 PSI at idle and between 55-60 PSI when giving it throttle. The fuel filter could be dirty as well. But it could also be something to do with ignition.
Normally if it's a fuel pump, it will not just start back up, you need to hit the tank to get it to try and pump fuel again, so I don't think it's that at all.

I know this is a longshot but my old obd1 civic had a bad water temp sensor or whichever sensor is on the thermostat housing and when you would drive for a bit and stop (say to get gas) the sensor would read that the engine was way too hot and it wouldn't allow for the car to restart until the sensor cooled down. This would leave me stranded at a gas pump for 15-20 minutes just sitting there waiting. At first it wouldn't throw a engine light. but it did eventually which helped me diagnose it.
Are you getting any check engine codes?

Yeah that sensor on the housing is the temp sensor gauge. The coolant temp sensor is on the cylinder head under the cam seal, where the dizzy is. That will cause that to happen and also make it flood the engine with fuel because the ECU is not reading the sensor from it being dead, so it makes the engine run rich. I just changed on on a Civic because it was not working, and as soon as I changed it, the car ran fine.
If you have a scan tool that you can read data on, you can check the sensor to see if it rears anything, and you can also jump the plug and then it will read the data and it should show it's at max temp. The will let you know if the sensor is working or not.
