Default 1988 Crx Si Ongoing project, rice to race

Hey guys, I finally got a chance to post a build thread of my brother and I's Crx project.

The car was pulled out of a junkyard in bad shape with a well worn d16z6 for pennies as something with four wheels that could be driven. Within a month or so the single cam was swapped for a b18a1 from a rear end total'ed 91 integra. that lasted for almost two years with daily beating and two Honda day Bracket 2 wins under its belt. with over 300,000 on the clock we decided why not turbo the thing? So we did and in the process took out the well abused a1 transmission.

first turbo setup.
Garret T04E 57 trim.
Ebay 38mm Wastegate
knockoff SSQV
Precision 850cc injectors
tuned on chrome by me
8lbs of boost

and that ran around for a couple months before the 22 year old rings gave up the ghost we re ringed it and on she went.

In preperation for Honda Day atco the car got a revamp as we attempted to get the car running at least in bracket 1 or quicker.

New Blackworks Racing ram horn turbo manifold, tial mvR 44mm wastegate, Speed trap consulting Silver surfer turbo, k tuned traction bar, Quaife Helical lsd, new clutch, new 22in slicks. car was probably making 270hp.

The week before honda day we went and took the car to atco and unfortunately my driver couldnt find 4th and found second and the datalog proved the 22 year old ls bottom end saw 9200rpm, it started knocking on the return road.

Limped the car and evaluated our options since we had planned a professional tune with Rs Tech Racing on tuesday,

We ended up craigslisting a built b16a that night.

AEBS sleeves
Manley turbo tough rods
weisco 9.5:1 forged pistons
cleaned up pr3 head
brian crower valvetrain
CTR cams

the seller had the head off to show its internals, had to prove it was properly sleeved etc, had to make a trip down to Import Dps to get an 84.5mm head gasket, timing belt, Skunk2 Pro Series Intake manifold and alpha 70mm throttle body, ACT streetlight flywheel and stage 5 clutch.

Monday morning we went and picked up the engine and drove all the way from north jersey down to burlington county twice, because beneficial bank doesnt exist outside the philadelphia area...

500 miles later we brought the engine home in the back of my Integra and dove in....

All nighter, ripped the swap out without an engine lift, what a pain. mated the short block and trans lifted it into the car with a jack and then put the head on top. by 11am the car was together and idling!

Took the car to get tuned by randy at Rs tech and got her on the rollers.
Car made 290 on gate pressure of 7lbs, cranked the MBC up to 12 and it started to creep, made 380 on 12lbs. Ended up running 15lbs of wastegate spring so it should be right around 400hp.

Unfortunately we were plauged with transmission problems due to a lack of concentration and I forgot one washer on a detent assembly locking the car out of 2nd gear... Car could only muster a 12.45 @129, not launching, without winding out any gear. first full pass. Dont mind the smoke, rings needed to loosen up motor had been sitting for a while.
power is definately there, have yet to hit the track with the trans corrected.

Car weighs 1925 with a driver and a full tank.

Pictures:

How We got the car, dont forget the rattle canned engine compartment, z3 fenders and body kit.

Honda day Atco 2012

Pulling the LS to do mounts, water pump, front main and timing belt. Tensioner bolt was stuck had to be pulled to access it.

Goodies being delivered.
