Calling all h22 CRX owners... mpg?
As title states, what are your real world mpg figures? Only H22A(1) need chime in. I don't care about B-swaps. I'm looking to do the swap. It will be going into my '90 CRX HF. It will be completely stock, with AC/heater, bar'd. My HF is way to slow for me in stop and go traffic. Highway cruising is fine, but when it hits stop and go traffic, especially uphills, my HF barely keeps up with big rigs. Also, with full sound deadening and a large sound system in the car, it's worse than it was before. My guess is around 30mpg?
I've yet to see anyone successfully have any external belt driven accessories installed outside of the alternator with an H22 into an 88-91 Civic chassis. Just throwing that out there since you say "with AC/heater" in your post above. From other "MPG" related posts it seems 30mpg average is rough estimate of what you can expect.
Thank you, that's what I thought. I can live with 30mpg because as of now, I think I am averaging 35mpg on my HF. As far ac/heater goes, I am sure there has to be someone out there that has done it, but have failed to post or comment about it. If not, it looks like I'll be the first one to do it.

Yes, I'll know the numbers after my next tank of gas. So far, it's not looking so good. I think I've added 200+lbs of weight to my car excluding me as the driver. And with the 60hp the HF is putting out, that doesn't help either. If my current mpg is averaging in the 30's I have no choice but to do the h22 swap.
Probably not, the tune will make more of a difference.
Depending on how you drive, 30mpg might be a high estimate. You make it sound like you have no choice but H22 when really there are a ton of motor options, some more a/c friendly than others.

Your Hf is getting "bad" gas mileage probably due to the fact that its so slow and you are always on it. If there were more level roads to drive on I'm sure it would top 45mpg. Either way you have your work cut out for you with that H22 with accessories. B series would be much easier to achieve your goal.
Either you are driving the car very hard, the car needs work (tune up/ new 5 wire o2 sensor), or you aren't calculating your mileage right. My friend had one that topped 50 regularly. (granted Long Island New York highways are pretty level for the most part.)
Is your HF stock? Mine is all stock with the exception of a custom 2 1/4" exhaust (from previous owner). Before the weight gain, I was averaging 45mpg, but because of the extra weight I've added to the car, there is a huge difference in how the car accelerates now. I also know that I've got other choices out there (b-series), but I'd like to skip all that and go straight to the H22 because of the power it produces stock wise. And that is my whole intention as well, do the swap, and leave it completely stock, the custom exhaust that came with the car will also be swapped out for an oem crx exhaust to. I won't be doing the swap myself, but I've spoken to a few shops and prices seem reasonable enough, so I think when I am ready, I am going to pull the trigger on it.

my 91 rex hf with d16a6 and trans swap is getting 40 or better. thats with exhaust leak and no air intake ( someone stole the damn thing day i got the car)and needing tune up. i did 180-200 miles on 1/4 tank
If your going for mileage and power getting the biggest engine that fits isn't going to do it.
My guess will be low to mid 20s with the extra weight of the engine and subs.

20-25 mpg on the freeway. I daily'd it for years... drove 180 miles and 180 miles back to gf's college on weekends. This was with it tuned on the dyno. 2.5" quick dump exhaust. ESP Header and 3" Short Ram Air Intake.
