Default speedo jumping on gsr

i have a gsr and my speedo keeps jumping up and down, sometimes it would be fine but once i go into higher speeds it jumps up and down, at times it will sit at normal speed, any clue, thinking it was speed sensor but my friends say it could be the dizzy, and vtec still works.

How would the speedo be affected by the distributor? Your friend is likely confusing that with a jumping tach.

More times than not its dirty/corroded contacts on the speed sensor plug or the plug is loose on the sensor.

If it's not the contacts, check for a short on the speedo sensor wire. Not sure what engine models were effected, but sometimes it shorts to the back of the intake manifold from years of rubbing.
Another option, if you can, is to swap the instrument cluster with a known working one.

so i took off the speed sensor, and now my speedo is completely dead with the odometer, and check engine light comes on here and there, possibly bad speed sensor? and i have launch control set at 5500 rpm and it wont go pass there once i push it.

I bet you its the plug. Had the same problem a few months back. Got a plug from the junkyard, wired it in, wabammmm....working speedo again. And that was after a lot of multimeter tests.

You may also want to use electric grease. I used that and mine stopped jumping. Remember that Coke is also corrosive. Using grease will prevent it from happening in the future.
