1st gen tail gate shave?
well my handle is getting hard to open and and plastic around the plate is staring to snap on the mounting points. i have always liked the look of the rear tireless gates but never wanted to fork over the cash for that and a bumper. i have shaved a golf hatch before so the job is no issue. just wondering if anyone has seen a 1st gen with a clean gate and the plate mounted to the bumper. i would put a popper to open the gate. my crv is also lowered on civic 16 alloys and i dont have an extra. so kinda renders me to have a spare tire useless with the 4wd anyway i would need the same size.
anyway what are your thoughts?

the hatch shaving wouldnt be too difficult and im contemplating it myself. ive already removed my spare and the mount and love the look. it looks more like a car than an suv. i think the bumper is gonna be the more difficult part due to it being plastic and having the dip for the tire go thru the bodyline in the bumper.
as for the bumper i think i will just end up buying the non spare tire one. i can get one close to me for 150. but they want 350 for the hatch without spare tire. i can shave and paint this for less then half of that!

That stuff at engine land has been up there for about a month now. I was going to stop in there maybe this weekend to get stuff from them. They are about 45 minutes away from me, so not to bad.
Has anyone brought JDM bumpers purchased in Canada back down into the States? I've toyed with the idea myself but wonder if Customs will go nuts over a bumper part that doesn't say DOT on it.
I know, I know; sounds stupid since the structure of the bumper itself doesn't really change between USDM and JDM, but have heard horror stories of getting, uh, "particular" Customs agents.
