Default 1989 Honda Civic Engine Swap Questions

I have a 1989 Honda Civic CX (It's Canadian) with a D15B2, I suspect. I am wanting to do an engine swap into it. I have done my research and figured out that a D16A6 will bolt right in and all I have to do is put in the correct ECU. My only concern is whether it will work with the stock Automatic transmission in the vehicle?

I have done my reading and have read that it will work with the transmission but I am assuming that was for a manual transmission. I would rather re-use the stock automatic transmission, if that would be possible.

As for the parts needed for the swap, I would need a PS9 ECU for the auto transmission and the motor right?

hey as to ur question u can use ur auto tranny with the a6, u just have to transfer the flexwheel and that's it, make sure the torque converter isn't dropped and when installed make sure it is full of fluid(torque converter) before bolting up the tranny, u will also have to wire up the extra injectors and dizzy wires need to be moved around. and yes its the ps9 ecu. if u need any questions feel free to ask, also saved the write ups I used to swap my d16a6 Si into my sedan which is same process if u need them

Awesome thanks. Is the d16A6 the easiest/best motor to swap in or is there an easier one that I should look out for? Such as the D16A8/9 or the ZC?

I am planning on overhauling the entire motor, new pistons and connecting rod etc.

I found a D16A6 block for 80 bucks that I might buy to start the project.

And if you could send me the write-ups from your swap, that'd be great. Thanks!

im pleased with my a6, and its pretty straight forward, just gotta run the 2 extra wires to the ecu move 2 and repin the dizzy, or cut and solder it ur preference. but yes go with the a6, u will like it, especially if u put good pistons an everythin in it. the a8/9 and zc will be lot more work in my opinion.

Cool. Sounds good, I'll use an A6 then. Could I see your write-ups from the swap please?

Other than VTEC, is there a difference between the d16a6 and the d16z6?

obd1 is over rated unless ur gona get it tuned, u could also jus get the multiport ecu and a engine harness from a multiport obd0 civic and u wouldnt have to wire up multiport injection, or put the dual point manifold on the a6

theres no point in the dpfi on the a6, its pretty much the same except cam and a .1 displacement, and the whole harness would still mean gotta run and move wires around at the ecu. he should just depin and move dizzy wires, get the injector harness with resistor plug and box and do it that way. an if he wanted he could do a wire tuck at same time with engine out. and u can still tune a obd0 ecu just cost a lil money to chip it.
