Rebuild or scrap?
So I just recently purchased a b18c 96 spec about 9 months ago and I'm having three issues, car is leaving soot on back bumper even after being tuned, idle is crappy when electricity is used such as windows and headlights and is burning almost all 4 quarts of oil in 2-4 weeks. Motor has no leaks anymore that we can see, so valid assumption would be it is burning it. The oil burning quickly and idle issue with electricity has only shown up after the tune. Not sure how a dyno tune could affect the oil consumption. I feel like it is almost a lost cause, but besides the fact it runs really well after being warmed up. It showed up as 171whp with about 140lbft. I really do not want to buy a new car and was looking up why car would burn oil and most are leading to piston rings, which I know can be expensive and must be done by a reputable place which means more money. I don't know if the dyno tune is what affected this. Sorry that I am reposting these issues but I am almost stumped as no specific answer which I understand is hard over the a forum. So what it really comes down to unless someone know how these issues could correlate to a dyno tune, should I do a rebuild on the engine, just fix the piston rings, or do I just buy a new car. I love the car to death, but I tried to buy a stock b18c and keep it stock and hope it is reliable but it isn't. The weird thing is, is that the car runs well and is fun to drive but I can afford to pay for oil and gas at almost the same rate haha. So any suggestions that would be awesome. For the rebuild, was looking to just rebuild it with stock type r parts, but I know usually rebuilds would be most effective upgrading rather than keeping it the same.
Right before the dyno tune, I used valvoline full synthetic for the first time. No blue smoke at all, white smoke only at high rpms consistantly, and soot on back bumper does not smear.
I can't get money back they're not co-operating. But I know changing stems or rings can be anywhere from 500-1000 so im trying to find out which if the three options i should go for.
Do as we have said before do a dry AND wet test the wet one will tell you if it's the rings or not
