GSR Overheating
Now that winters over and its getting hot outside my teg has started overheating again.
-97 GSR
-Drag Turbo kit gen3
-85mm bore, sleeved block
-rebuilt last year, all new gaskets / headgasket
-hydro tested head when rebuilt
-new half size dual core radiator, thermostat (2weeks ago)
sooo the car runs great on the highway no overheating. Its when im stopping and going or when i turn my car off for a few minutes, like gas stations or running into the store. Also with heat on car rarely overheats.
To try n get better flow i removed my ac condenser (ac was already out but previous owner left the condenser in) while removing it i punctured my rad so i bought a no name brand half size dual core. The car overheated before the radiator swap so i don't think its that. Plus with the turbo manifold right next to the full size rad it was prolly running hotter with the full size.
flushed whole system with thermostat removed for 20min with a hose.
replaced the thermostat at the same time. also running stock fan/shroud on rad.
The car does burn coolant, sweet exhaust and coolant loss. So my first thought is HG.
-No coolant in oil (ive gone through 3-4 oil changes)
-No oil in coolant.
-No coolant in plugs
Did a compression test, 210 across the board 1-2 psi fluctuation. With the lowered compression and overbore idk what the compression should be but 210 seemed pretty good to me.
Makes sense, the HG only 1 year old and brought head to a shop.
Also did a block test twice, as far as i could tell the fluid didn't change color, instructions said 2min but i pumped it for 5 minutes. But i did this with car idling, dont know if i was suppose to rev it up a lil but i didn't cuz when i did the coolant would bubble up into the test fluid and i had to start over.
Changed the fan turn on in hondata to 190F below 45mph (200F 30mph stock) hoping it would help but didn't make much of a change.
The IACV was acting up over the winter so i cleaned it (turned out to be the electrical plug) So maybe i damaged it and its leaking coolant into the IM.
Or possibly the IM gasket. idk what brand the manifold is, came with the car, but it looks like a type R and theres a P73 bracket on it so im geussing its an older BLOX. The gasket kit I bought came with the IM gasket so maybe it was the wrong one?
SO my guesses are IM gasket, IACV or water pump.
what do you guys think???

Over the whole thing you posted I didnt see any thing about testing to see if the cooling fan even turns on.
Your first step would be to turn the key to on and jump the sensor located right by the thermostat and if the fan turns on that means your fan works. If it doesnt then replace the fan.
After that the next step would be to test that the temp sensor works by letting the car sit at idle and keeping an eye on the temp. If it starts to get hot and the fan doesnt turn on I would replace the temp sensor.

Sorry, yes the fan turns on and spins the correct direction. When at idle the fan will cycle on for a min or two then turn off and the car won't over heat. It's only during short stop n go trips.
B swapped93 just ran the car for a good 30min with rad cap off squeezing the hoses regularly. Turned it off n Topped off the coolant. I'll drive for a few days n give an update.
