Default Strange TPS behavior

Am in a quandary about my car... the old TPS was not giving a good reading and I decided to replace it. 98,000 miles, the car is 10 years old it's time anyway.

After installing the new TPS, I took a reading (as described on this very forum) of the middle TPS wire (red/black, connector C #27) under the dash.

Idle 4.74v
Full 4.74v

NO change when clocking the TPS. Nothing. Can't make an adjustment, nothing works, nothing changes. Setting the idle at 0.45 is just a dream at this point. The chance of the new TPS having the same problem as the worn one is remote.

Symptoms are still the same, typical involuntary engine revving, interrupted shifts especially 2nd gear, dies at idle or when increasing revs.

Either I'm brain damaged or the VTEC wiring was switched around by the engineers. Maybe the car's brain is scrambled.

Codes: P0118 coolant P0113 Intake (both are typical, the throttle body is being serviced. P1259-- the Oil looks OK, could a bad solenoid be pre-empting the TPS adjustment???? The P1259 just came up after replacing the TPS, was not listed before.

Any suggestions, members?

My guess is that you didn't seat the little black piece correctly when you mounted the tps. Take it out and look at it. There's a little piece that needs to rest correctly in the throttle body.

Definitely seated it correctly, that's what's so bewildering....

actually if you're getting a reading of higher than 4.5 you could be testing the reference volts what are you getting on the other two wires ?

tps connected probe the middle wire put the black wire on battery ground then adjust it, it does sound like you are getting reference voltage

4.74v on ALL THREE wires. It's totally illogical. Am looking for the old TPS to see if I can get a better reading out of it... the first time it was all over the board.

The new TPS has to be defective. It looks like I'm going to have to do a plug test also. NO change occurs when an adjustment is made... engine behavior is the same no matter what position is chosen...

Don't worry holmesnmanny, the problem has been solved.

The car was recently purchased for a song. The guy was happy to unload it. A dufus mechanic either connected the ground wire (green) to the reference voltage wire (yellow), or a pinch happened somewhere in the harness. The green wire is live when it should not be. The signal wire (red) was receiving power through the ground wire. Yes, illogical. I'm going to have to rewire the ground...ugh. THEN there is the matter of a closed short drawing down the battery down a rabbit hole somewhere, which I had incorrectly attributed to the car sitting for 10 days. Not. I'm experienced in this sort of matter, and will find it and cut it off. It's not an impossible job.

Thanks people, you helped me work out the problem, the comments helped me focus on what this sensor should be doing, rather than what it is not doing.
