So im wondering what people do for filters on their top mount kits on a 96-00 to retain the drivers headlight and keep the car "legal"
There is literally no room and I will not run a screen. have heard nothing but bad things from that.
I was thinking of picking up a spare headlight to attempt cutting the outer housing off to hopefully make some room for a 45 or 90 coupler to locate the filter between the side mount and the headlight.
Ive searched this topic already and all I see is eg's which seem to have a lot more room cause of the smaller lights.
ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED! Im gonna look for a smaller filter also

I'm also having the same exact issue, H22 turbo, EK chassis with a Topmount manifold and a PT6466, I have a little more clearance with my manifold than in the first pics posted here, but not much, i was on the "spectre "filter website and they have a 4 inch flexible intake duct, and they also will make custom aluminum tight bends using a series of pie cuts so you won't effect airflow into the turbo...I actually sent me manifold back to be redone, cause I had wastegate clearance issues with my tial V60, so I am hoping this time I can get a little extra clearance to run an air filter....You'd think that the manifold designers would take this very impt detail into consideration....
Maybe this? There are different sizes (2.5, 3, 4")

But. that's neither here, nor there... He's got it, and he's gotta use it.

yea i wasnt really thinking about the air filter when i bought the kit... ive just seen other setups with filters so i just assumed that one would fit. I guess its all about the manifold designand the placement of the turbo, my mistake lol
anyways im gonna make a trip to the wrecker tomorrow and pick up a old headlight or two to see what I can do about the adjuster once I cut the housing to make some room. Experiment with those, Id hate to **** up my black ones.
thanks for the input peeps

I just have a couple pieces off wire mesh across my housing. It's my daily, and so far it's seen 80 degree sunny weather, downpours of rain, a foot and a half of snow with no problems. I can't fit a filter on mine either. In Colorado, they put a ton of **** on the roads when it snows to keep it from sticking too. Just my opinion even though I'm sure I'll get some hate from people that hate wire mesh.

I went and got a garbage headlight from the yunkyard to experiment with. I was able to trim the back housing and make enough clearance to install a 60 degree coupler and manage to get clean air. Just working on aiming and locking the inner shell in place now that the adjuster is gone. I already know how im going to reseal it all
If it works out ill make a DIY for others. Its not the prettiest of things but a filter is a must for this car
This is only gonna be temporary till I can get someplace to buy a piece of 4" pipe

Doesn't look like it should be restricted at all but we shall see.
