Default Overheating Issue

So I finally got my teg running after rebuilding it. It's 12.5:1 compression. It was doing good while I was breaking the rings in on a Phearable basemap. My room mate and I took it out with Hondata hooked up, we were pulling up to 5k rpms and letting it engine brake down to 2500 rpms in different gears. We did it about 6-7 times in a row with maybe a minute break between each time and the highest the coolant temp ever got was 204* I drove it around for the next 2 days doing some more break-in here and there and it has been just fine.

Today, i had someone come out to street tune it until i can afford a dyno tune (he has a good reputation with my honda friends) After he started editing the fuel map, we made it about 10 miles and the check engine light came on and it was up to 220* and the lower hose was cold. flipped the heat on, babied it home and changed the cap, thermostat and topped off the coolant (water pump is brand new and the old thermostat seemed fine). Tried to go to the gas station 2 miles away, overheated. let it cool and tried to get back home, overheated again before i could even make it there. He said he left it a little rich but I'm getting skeptical

My question is, do you think he's just unfamiliar with high compression and maybe has it running rich for a lower compression car but it's not rich enough to compensate for the high compression? That's the only thing that makes sense to me is that it's too lean causing the extra heat.

Also, what's a safe a/f ratio range to run at 12.5:1? the cylinders are bored to 81.5mm, using 92 octane, .051" head gasket, 4-1 header, and i think the cams are just stock itr.

Thanks in advance, sorry for the book.

Bad thermostat. Cheap to replace or throw it in some near boiling water and see if it opens. The cold lower radiator hose should be a dead giveaway.

well i just tried going back to the basemap and driving it. It stayed at 195* at idle and went to 207* within a mile and I let it cool down. Now that I'm back home and felt the hose again, it's hot near the thermostat and cooler at the radiatior. Another thing is, I'm not sure what the normal coolant temp is. The needle on the dash doesn't go above the halfway mark at 207* I've read up to 225* and remember that my room mate changed the temp on the basemap bc he said it seemed high but I cant find an answer. But still, it wasn't getting this hot before the guy messed with it even when we were trying to heat it up to break in the rings :/ I'll try putting the one i took off in boiling water though

Maybe your tuned map is lacking timing and has too much fuel?

I thought it might be the map he made but I went back to the basemap Phearable made me which we used before when it was fine but it's still getting hot really fast. I don't think he messed with that one. Only other thing I can think of is he adjusted my tps bc it was reading 6 instead of 0 at idle but I don't know how that would have effected it.

UUUUUUUGHHHH. I lied, apparently I was outside accomplishing nothing for 2 hours. Didn't know I had to hit upload after opening the other basemap... Sooooo yeah. Facepalm. I switched basemaps (the guy has me idling at 15-16 btw, not rich, phearable has me idling at 10) and since they've tinkered with the TPS and idle, I can no longer get the richer mixture from Phearable to run well enough to drive. Tried getting it all back to where it was but it's not improving, let it idle, got to 199* and sat there... So this is all I've got for now. Really needing some input here, anyone.
