Jdm B16a oil change
I just Recently bought a 98 civic lx with a 92 jdm b16a does anyone know how many quarts of oil it takes? What oil filter to use, what spark plugs to use? I also want to change the tranny fluid what kind of oil should I use and how many quarts b16 has an LSD tranny. Noob here trying to learn
Any auto store where you get the oil should have the capacity listed on their computer, just ask. Same with the spark plugs, get NGK. I like using the K&N oil filter, but its probably not necessary for my engine, lol. (D16y7)
As for the transmission oil, I've heard both a 50/50 mix of 10w30 motor oil and pennzoil synchromesh, and the honda tranny fluid. I would personally go with the honda manual transmission fluid since its not changed all that often, might as well spring for the good stuff.

When getting things engine/trans things at auto parts stores, get parts from a 99-00 civic si, 92-93 gsr, or 94-97 del sol VTEC. All will be the same.
4 quarts for engine
2.5 for trans

I used 10w40 and its shifting smooth even in high rpms, but I change it every 10 -15k miles due to the amount of driving and want it to stay fresh, and amount of oil for engine depends on your oil pan. Cuz my oil pan ain't stock and uses all 5q to go to half on dip stick. :D

as any oil guru will tell you that just because the oil is black does not mean its bad... most oils have detergents in them to clean the inside of the motor...only way to truely know when the oil is bad is with a viscosity test... best fluid to use in the trans is honda MTF.... if using 10w-30 motor oil like the old service manuals recomended i would change it every 30k... using honda MTF change it every 60k

You do realize everything you just said is completely counterindicative, right? Oil doesn't affect shifting - transmission fluid and synchro/sleeve health do. 10-15k is twice to three times the recomended service limit - if you "want it to stay fresh", you should be changing every 2-3k.
I use the Amsoil Website for capacities and info here at Kia. This is what I pull up for a B16A2

So I did my oil change and I'm running 10w30 mobile 1 full synthetic since its hot here in az and running Fram tough guard since I got two free and BKR6EIX-11 that any good?
Good call on 10w here in the desert. 5w is too thin for here and will **** out the smallest leak...
92 - 95 transmissions call for oil that was manufactured 92 - 95. Motor oil formulations have changed due to environmental concerns and do not have ZDDP anti wear additives necessary for use in a manual transmission.
(Non lsd) I would recommend 10w30, its slightly thinner than 10w40. Service man says either 30-40 SF or SG grade(this rating is on the back of the bottles towards bottom in little circle symbols.) Did you swap to jdm b16 trans, too? I'm not sure, but I think those are lsd, which has diff requirements...edit: 2.3qt trans, 4.2qt eng.

Well, either trust the parts supplier(I don't trust vatozone or o'grimey to get me the correct stuff, ever) or start new thread or download service manual from my signature and look it up as 98-00 ctr or itr(either one has lsd)
