Oil capacity?
I have a question regarding oil capacity of an ITR engine. Back in 97 I had a USDM ITR and when changine oil it would take 4L. Now I have a civic with a JDM ITR engine and when I pour in 4L the oil stick indicates that I have about half a liter too much. The oil reaches about 8mm past the last hole. Is there any difference in the oil pans that are on the USDM and JDM ITR engines??? Anyone else had this problem with JDM ITR engines???
Any help is apreciated.
Thanks,
Rafal

Would anyone know the conversion factor from quarts to liters.
There's probably still a little oil left in the motor when you're doing oil changes. I hear tipping up the driver's side wheel more when doing an oil change can get more oil to come out.
Yes, 4 L is too much even when you change the oil filter.
Just put 3.7 L on your engine, don´t do hard runs with the oil on the second hole, you´ll burn it.
Just get your oil in the midlle of the two marks.
If it have oil in the second hole it will burn oil a lot. If i put the oil in the midlle of the two holes i never burn oil.

4.2 quarts my ***..
i use 4.2 quarts last time and im above the max fill hole by a smidge so i had to drain.
this time i used 4 quarts and im right at the min fill hole.
i poured in another .4 quarts and im at 40% above the min fill hole.
gay!

Pinota- Would you mind elaborating on your theory?

But if i run with the oil level in the middle of the 2 holes i don´t burn any oil, after hard driving the oil level will keep the same has before.
The ITR runs better and i can notice better power gains.
If you run hard with high oil levels all the time you will spoil your valve seals and oil rings faster. That´s what competition mechanics told me. Also you´ll get better hp. They told me that, in dynos they can see loss hp diferences when they fill up the oil to much.
That´s what i think about my ITR runs, supported with mechanic acknowledgment.
You might think it´s crazy, but that´s version of the facts.

For what you have said to be valid, the oil level would need to so high as to reach the crank- and that's a big NO NO!! . Filling oil to the upper mark of the dipstick is not only recommended by all manufacturers, it is necessary to prevent oil starvation at high lateral G forces. I still don't understand what you're talking about. My $.02

I do agree with your comments, but you have to remember that mfg's specifications are for street use not racing use, therefore an experienced racing team might have differnt experience with amount of oil to run for their application. Race teams usually use buffeled oil pans so the difference of .25L of oil want realy make that big of a difference when it comes to latteral g's.
By the way I own your $.02 right now
.
Can the person that was talking about 3.7L comment on his experiences a bit more.
Thanks,
Rafal
