Default Need help, possible bad gas?

97 Accords cranks, no start. Checked for spark, has spark, so I loosened nut on fuel rail, and went to turn the key to check for fuel, well, it started and tried to idle on its own (of course it was spraying excess gas everywhere) but when i re-tightened the nut, it will not do anything but turn over. gas sample doesn't look watery, but it also doesn't seem to smell as strong as I am used to smelling gas. I have over a half a tank of gas and do not want to drain no need. any direction would help

Bad fuel pressure regulator? That's a total shot in the dark.

How long has it been sitting? I changed the gas tank on my motorcycle and used some bad gas. A simple 1/2 hr job turned into a 12hr job to get rid of all the bad gas that was in the replacement tank. It messed up everything. The bike wouldnt start, messed up the injectors, lots of work.

If the gas has been sitting for more than 6 months, and the car hasnt been started, just do yourself a favor and change out the gas first.

Then there was that one time my buddy and I started a truck that sat for 18 years on the gas that was in the tank.... Before doing all that work I would probably buy some sort of gas tester to see makeup of the fuel.

can you add more information that might be necessary to help diagnose..such as when did this start..did you do any work recently...how long was the car sitting....things that could help diagnose this better

I got gas saturday on my way home, went to start it monday, and it wouldn't. I let some gas sit in a cup for about an hour and it has a good sized water bubble in the bottom. yay.

I dont have experience with water in your gas. There is a product which is supposed to get the water out. I am not sure how well it works.

If you are fairly confident that you have water in your gas, I would recommend a drain. If you put in fresh and good gas, and then you still have a problem, then we go from there.

Shoot, that is bad news. I would contact the gas company you filled up with and they will usually take care of the issue. My roommate had the same issue and they paid for everything plus gave him a $250 gift card for gas... I don't think he used it though.
