Installation of new motor: What should I ask the shop?
Hey guys, my wire harness been giving me problems, seems like a rat might have messed it up during the winter while i was on vacation. I been calling up shops in my town for a new motor, I'm still new to this but he told me its 2800 for a low milage h22 installed, and 3500 for a GSR motor installed and running out the door. Btw this is 99+ year, with all paper work, and supposedly low miles.
There is no warranty because they are not responsible for whatever i end up doing with it after i receive the car. these are USDM as well.
What else should I ask him that are important that I should know? By the way this is in California. He also mentions he can put JDM motors too and that it was legal, but I swore that wasn't allowed in cali anymore (this kind of made me think he might be kind of shady.) But what else should I be asking before I shell this much cash out?
Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated

what engine do you have now?
why not just get a new harness if you think its bad?
i would go over the engine they want to sell you with a microscope, last thing you want to do is end up with a stolen motor.. ask them where they get them from?

I have a stock motor in my civic 99 dx.
The motor comes with paper work though, could i still end up with a stolen motor? I'll just come up with a list of question before I give him a call, i dont wanna call without all the info i need to know.
Only reason is because I feel like a new motor wouldnt be that much on top rather then pay like 500 dollars for a new harness to be installed. he said he got LS motored installed and running out the shop for 2000.
So what else should i ask him about where it came from.. see thats why i never got a motor swap done because theres so many little things that can go wrong, just the past 3 months my d series kept falling apart imagine a another motor with the same problems.
Just because he says its low milage theres no actual way to tell is there?
Btw, my neighbor just got his h22 swap done in his civic from this shop, no problems for the last month, no CEL or anything. Hes loving it, he said they installed with a p28 chipped, 30 000 miles, with new brakes put in for 3k out the door. He said all he needs is a p13 and a cat and his car can pass BAR no problems
