Default is this right?

A good friend of mine has a ls.vtec motor on his 89 hatch. suposedly he has put over 3000$ parts and labor(jdm t.r. pistons/valves/etc.) but he has only managed 15.7 without vtec... and a 14.9 with it. that was about a month 1/2 ago.
now, we weresupposed to go to norwalk on monday bur they are closed or winter, he says he has the tuning done right, the vtec is manual now, and everything is straight... we'll go next tuesday to dragway 42 and see what happens.
what can he expect? anybody running this kind of setup?
i mean for that kind ofa setup, and doing 15.7 w/o vtec... i did 16.2 on my crx, with an hf tranny... i just don't get it!

well.... he should be running better times even if he doesnt have VTEC kickin..... having a 14.9 with vtec its still a a lil normal... a B16 in a hb should give u 15.1... a GSR can give u 14.9... ls/vtec should break u into 14.5-14.7.... tell him to change the manual vtec engagement,,,, he will be good if he gets a Zdyne conversion....

he had the vtec running normaly off the computer, but then he started having problems with it not kicking in... he replaced the solenoids, checked all the wires, everything seem fined and he still had issues. then he went manual, with a switch on the shift ****.
maybe he just has a "bad motor"... who knows... i just hope to see better times. he'll be running slicks(me too) i gotta see what my x does.

try getting the motor dynoed...to see how much power it generates and to tune it accordingly.
