burned 1 quart in 800 miles, blamed on drving style...
My parents took my car into the dealer a while back complaining of oil lossage, so Honda checked the level and had us come back in a month. Well 800 miles and one month later I had lost a quart. Unfortunately I wasn't there at the time, 'cause they blamed it on my driving style, I would've had some words with them. True, I like Vtec, but the engine is capable of burning that much oil, and all that they truly KNEW was that I burned a quart in 800 miles. I am aware of the 1qt/1000mile rule, and my car is scheduled to go back to the dealer for a couple things next monday (10/28). Well I'm at school so my mom is bringing it in. The dealer is probably going to give her the run-around, so I need factual proof that my excessive rate of oil consumption calls for dealer warranted work.
Has anybody dealt with the dealer about this and succeeded? Does anybody know a resource that would help strengthen my argument? I don't think Honda's gonna want to do free work on my car...Thanks for any and all help. Peace

didn't you just post this before.
either way, whatever oil you're using and what not. it's not normal. honda set the limit for oil burning high because they know there's a problem with the h22a rings. it would cost them too much money to tear down how many h22a's with new rings.
1 quart every 800miles is more then accessive.
if you're car is still under warranty, have them do a leak down test. people have gotten new rings under warranty. if you're car isn't under warranty, you're screwed. chances are the motor will last well over 100k but you'll just need to check oil levels.
however, not a good idea having your mother bring it in. service managers see a mother with absolutely no clue about a particular car and they will always get the run around.

yeah man, isn't this a repost.... you've got a 5th gen right, Honda actually came out with an updated piston ring that is supposed to solve that problem in the 5th gens, you just need to talk to Honda, and they can give you better details. if you want, you can actually call my local dealership so they don't give you the run around
Apple Tree Honda/Acura (828)684-4400
ask to speak with Zachary Pennstrom
tell him that Sam told you to talk to him about the updated piston rings for the 5th gen Prelude, he is a good friend of mine, and he is the one that told me about it and he'll know exactly what your talking about.

yup, my BRAND NEW rebuilt High C/R all motor POS h22 burns about a half a quart to a quart between oil changes. I use mobil 1 syn 5W30 or 10W30 depending on the weather. Even on Redline and Amsoil I still had an oil burn of about the same. I think it's just the engines burn it up somehow.
yeah, It was a repost mostly, I forgot to ask if there was any place online or any resource to find past cases. I just added a few questions, but wanted to put it all in one post. Sry bout that. It's a 1998, 82,000 miles.
So has anyone had this fixed for free under the 1 qt ever 1000 mile rule?? Is there a place or number to call that I can find the official rule?? thanks

I'll see if I can get my dad to bring it in when he's not busy (always is). But the dealer's near my mom's work, and to be honest, she knows more than my dad does about cars - designs brakes for bosch. My dad doesn't even like driving my car anyway, he hates 4 cylinders. go figure...peace

My car was bought used from a honda dealer, and we purchased an extended warranty to 100,000 miles. Does anyone know if this warranty would cover a leakdown test? I would hope it'd cover the rings if they're bad.
