Default Aligning a Crx hatch, why so difficult?

Hey guys, I bought a new to me oem Crx hatch, I have it installed and bolted up (was tough with one person, but I cant get it to look right.

It latches, but doesnt release easy. The look is slightly off on the left side flat part, it is not flush with the rear quarter panel glass. But on the right side it is perfectly flush.

I had the bolts hand tight and youd think Id just be able to push the left side forward at the back, but there doesnt seem to be any adjustment.

How have you guys had success?

Why did you replace the hatch? I can only assume the car has been in an accident, which means the rear body structure might be slightly out of wack. You can try a piece of wood and a large hammer, but be careful.

it's possible the lower corners have rusted out, my 86 accord hatch was like this, I found a hatch in not that good of a condition, but the metal corners remove by drilling out the spot welds, so I swapped corners and welded them back in. Most of the early Honda hatchbacks have an issue with water collecting in the lowest part of the hatch, I have a georgia car, but my hatch condition didnt match the rest of the body, which was pretty much rust free , it was probably a repair part from up north

No body damage or accident on this car, its mint. I am replaced the hatch because my lower window section was smashed by vandals Im assuming, the one I pulled off was PERFECTLY aligned so its definetely my process Im assuming

Theres gotta be a nice way to get this to line up and latch easy

I couldn't imagine doing that myself.

I know when I did my doors I used cardboard as wedges to get the door to align. Still not 100% but it's my beater so I didn't care too much. Not sure if you could use the same technique for the hatch.

Your probably just going to have to play with it. I've never swapped out a hatch on a CRX but I've done one on a civic hatchback. Tighten, losen, retightening. You have the latch, striker, rubber stoppers, and mount points to make adjustments. You can also with the mounts tight and the hatch open pull/push.
I know it seems like there should be a easy way to adjust it, but there isn't. There's no exact science to doing this, just be genle at first and get the feel for it. Body techs sometimes have to do the same thing. The good techs a lot less, but it still happens. GL

I cant get this hatch to line up. The back left corner is to far back, about 3/16" from being flush with the left rear triangle glass.

Even if the nuts are all loose, I cannot push that corner up to make it move at all to make it flush... I wish I never took it off now!!

Without seeing any pictures, is there a chance of slightly slotting the hinge mounting hole so that you can push the hatch in more? If I'm understanding this correctly, the hatch is level horizontally but if looking from above is 3/16 past that rear triangle glass?

Yup thats how its sitting

Im sure I could notch it to move it, but didnt think I should do that, and if I did, I dont know if the hatch latch would work properly at that point as it functions were it sits right now, not great, its hard to lock, but it functions

Then you can still slide it back to where it sits now and be right back where you are. Or go to the yards and buy another set of hinges to mess with. I'd honestly guess that the latch will work better once the hatch is straight.
