Turbo D!!!!! Build Thread
So over the next 3 months I will be building a turbo b7/z6 mini me, The plan is to shoot for 260-280 hp with reliablity as this will be my daily/street car. I know the term budget build gets thrown around alot on ht but I plan to do this build for cheap without sacrificing too much reliability, I will do my best to list prices for parts as I update the build, the ultimate goal is to keep the motor rebuild under $1500.
what are your plans for rods, b7 rods are good for about 200 hp
id say try cx racing rods, http://www.cxracing.com/mm5/merchant...Category_Code= with arp bolts

its a d15 i wouldnt bother opening it up unless it needs it ..... if ur not upgrading rods and this motor doesnt smoke then just boost it as is if all u want is a boosted stock block...
Dam that motor looks in rough shape. I would not boost a motor with 230K on it and expect it to live long. At least do a bottom end refresh and refresh the head as well. But you might as well put forged pistons and rods in it if you are going that far.

after much research and consideration i think i will be going with the cx racing rods although they may be considered ebay parts, they do do extensive research and testing, plus they make pretty good coil overs, and for 230 bucks i cant say no, this is a budget build, the crower billet i beams just arnt worth it to me, i could go the route of machined ls rods, or b16 rods with 1g-gte pistons, but i dont trust the machines shops around me with that custom fabbing
I a upgrading internals, i have a 1500 budget just or this, the only thing that im keeping on the b7 is the block, crank, and a few other things, the rest of the parts off the motor I can sell or scrap, to make some money back

i will be doing the majority of the build my self, any machine work will be done at my friends shop, they build all my crews motors so I trust them, plus Ill get a nice hookup on the price
Good luck with the build! Some advice on the turbo: go big if you're looking for upper 200 whp. I had a reliable turbo y8 for about 10 years. I had Eagle rods (which I notched the block for using a dremel tool); so it's not hard to do at all provided that you keep all the metal dust out of the engine. My turbo was a GT32 - 60/48. Not huge, but I was running 17psi on 93 octane making about 290whp.
I would get at least a T3 ish sized turbo if you can; my 15g was good for only 185whp at 12psi, then ran out of breath.
