Hey guys it pains me to say this but 01-800 is no longer with us

I was payed out 11k which i thought was a little low but after finding out the procedure to fight the insurance it wasnt gona be worth the time and effort for them to give me a little more money. Payed 1,000 to keep heR since the motor trans and everything from the firewall back was still good.

Now i have an issue as to if it is remotely possible to repair. and when i say repair i mean cut and shut. I people tell me yes its possible and others that say its not worth it and to scrap it. I really want to figure a way to fix heR and want to get your guys opinion on the subject. keep in mind i do have the knowledge and resources to do this. Is she worth saving??

 

It can be saved if the frame and body structure is still good. For the procedure I would get a whole front clip and cut and weld from the shock towers forward.

To be honest maybe a jdm front end conversion would work out now

 

screw a jdm front coversion it would be the same amount of work to hang that ugly front end on just as much work to put it back to stock. To the OP every thing is fixable. yes this is fixable just depends on how far you want to go and how much money you want to spend. ive personally replaced the complete front frame rails and entire nose on a 2000 civic. was it worth it? no but it was more just for experience. I would look at it this way if you can fix it for under 3 grand go for it but if its more than that just buy another one. you got 10k out of it you can find a good condition one for that much and you still have a ton of parts to sell and or swap over. if your good with body work go for it

 

Glad you are alright, what happened? At least u got to buyback the vehicle for 1K. Dirt cheap with what's salvageable. I probably wouldn't rebuild it, but that's because I wouldn't want to dip around in a wrecked ITR- But she is worth saving.

As much as you love the car, I say part it out.

Why? The accident has caused it to lose value. It will NEVER be fixed to be as good as it was originally from the factory. Maybe from a really experienced specialty place... but that will cost lots of money.

Cash out, part it, buy a different ITR.

 

I was cut off as i was passing an intersection by a guy making a left on the oncoming side with no space to do so. I didnt have the space to brake in time and if i tried to avoid it i would have ended up in oncoming traffic. 100% his fault i had a green light and the right of way.

The cash value to me is irrelivant. I would be keeping this car untill the grave. Its more of a sentimental thing. This R has been in my family since january 01 when my brother in law purchaced it new from the dealer and the day i fell in love with hondas, in 05 my brother picked it up from my brother in law and he then passed it on to me in december of 2011. I would be doing the work myself at my college auto shop with some friends and instructors. The car will be caged and additional structural support added.

I'd at least look into fixing it, esp. if you're considering making it a (caged) track caR...

Get the whole RHD front clip and redo it

 

Theres a way the frame rails are welded at the fire wall if there bent. Im sure you cold drill an grind all the wellds an get a cheap parts car for all the sheet metal to reweld it all back up. Theres a guy who has a thread on here who just did it to a del sol so im sure you can do it too.

I would buy all new oem panels, one at a time and fix it. Would it really be worth it? Not really, but It's a Type R. It'd be worth it to me. Can't put a price on something that means something to you, unless it cost WAY more then its worth.

It's not as bad as it looks. Been through this before but with non ITR's. Fix it if you have the knowledge and resources.

 

Doesn't look terrible, but pictures from the bottom-up or with the hood removed will reveal the extent of the damage.

The two chassis beams that extend forward from suspension pivots are most definitely bent. Honda purposely designed them to thin out just before the suspension, so that they bend & absorb energy in a collision. You'll have to cut them off or bend them to properly attach the motor mount(s), radiator support, bumper support, etc. My guess is the car should still be true (like I said, the chassis should bend before the suspension/subframe points) but that could just be wishful thinking. Other than that concern, it's just a bunch of busy work & time.

In the end, it's just a car, albeit an R. The fact that you're okay is far more important.

 

Look at how twisted the rad support is thru the grille opening. The driver side rail is def buckled badly. The pass side rail most likely bent too. I'm guessing by looking at it that the whole car twisted where the rails meet the firewall and again at the towers. It can be fixed but its going to be a hell of a lot of work.

 

I appreciate all the support guys. i have some pics of the accident and some recent pictures of heR and as i expected and some of you mentioned the rails are bent from the firewall forward. at this point i found two ways to do the repair (clipping or drill out the firewall and rails). I will be going threw with it just dont know which yet. alot of people might not be happy but im getting a jap-spec front clip as it is cheaper than the $2k usdm ls clips my local dismantalers want to sell me and i live 5 minutes from HMotors and wont be dealing with shipping and possible shipping damages. anyway enough of my blabbering here are the pics. first one is the actual crash site
