98 CRV head gasket
Recently did the head gasket on my 98 CRV. now I have a small oil leak between the head and the block around the timing belt area I had to head checked for compression and shave down at the machine shop. I have a feeling the head bolts must be re torqued. do I have to drain all fluids from the engine before loosening and retorqing or can I just loosen and re tightened without draining fluid?
the only problem i see you runing to is the coolant running into the oil and rest of the engine, i would change the oil anyway since its under the wrench, you can always drain the antifreeze below the head level
ok so in the process of re doing the head gasket, when i a see a crack in the piston sleeve. A very small crack at the very top of the sleeve(probably why i had to change the gasket)the machine shop i took the head to quoted me an outrageous price on rebuilding the block, so i was wondering if i can replace my b20b4 block with a b20b block and if i can what modifications do i have to make for it to run properly? any help is appreciated thanks also my b20b4 engine runs on synth blend oil if i go with the b20b block can i still use the old head since i know its good?
yes, use your existing head and you will need a new headgasket as well.
Or you can just buy a new B20 engine and swap it in. theyre only 550 before shipping.

Oh the cracked Sleeve situation, Luckly i cought mine before it cracked amd got a cylinder support system done. since you most likely need new sleeves

But basically any B series Block should bolt up to existing mounts
A B20Z is the update for 1st gen 98-2000 and is higher compression and your stock head should work on that too

The only way you would crack a sleeve is cause of detonation. Honda B20's are fine under NA conditions and can hold boost as well.
If you have a cracked sleeve, either you had some bad gas, or some mis-fire goin on. IDK what type of abuse the engine has had or why the HG blew in the 1st place.
Honda P75 heads are the wost flowing head of the Bseries family. While sourcing a P8R can be done (as it flows close to a B16) if your looking for more performance. Milling the head .020" will also bump up the compression. Its not the proper way to bump compression, it is the simplest.
