Hey fellas,

Here to ask a question for a friend of mine(he doesn't know English). We are having a hard time in our setup.

b16 block
b16 head
b18 crank(89mm)
84mm sleeves with
84mm CP storker pistons

We are using the OEM B16A2 rods. The problem is, rods hit the sleeves when we install them.

"Why is that ?" is the question. Hope you fellas can help me out.

You are going to have to clearance (grind a notch) at the bottom of the cylinders to have the rods clear.

Anyone got pics of this?

 

Sleeves are Darton btw, is it ok to grind them(even for a little notch) ? Is it doable ?

Don't have photos atm, but provide them as soon as i can.

How much searching did you do before posting?

Yes, safe to grind and then deburr (make smooth by removing sharp edges) the bottom of the cylinders.

Thank you very much, we indeed will grind the bottom end of the sleeves a little bit. This was a first for us, that's why it suprised us a bit. But, thanks to this epic forum that we have learned what to do.

How do you plan on fitting a b18 crank with b16 rods in a b16 block?

Cranks, rods, and deck heights are all different between the 2....

 

No problem. Hope this gets you on the right right track. Did you also notice the color of the bearings in the picture? Those are, I believe, the ACL Race bearings.

 

when i was looking for answers on this topic all I could find was aluminum rod situations which makes sense you'd need to notch. i thought something was wrong because i have tons of room around my setup.

 

Offset wrist pin pistons i would guess i saw a set for sale that was for that exact combo awhile back.

The better word to use is "raised" pin. Offset pin is used to mean the pin hole is off to one side of the piston.
