Question about orange peel
I have a quick question about orange peel, I've already tried searching and can't seem to find the answer to my particular situation. I painted my car about two years ago, is it too late to wet sand the orange peel out? The orange peel isn't terrible, but it is there.
It shouldn't be too late to wet sand it out. Just so long as your clear isn't peeling, which after two yrs shouldn't be.
Just make sure you check the paint thickness. Might take a while depending on how many coats of clear were applied.

You will never get all the orange peel out... Do you know how many coats of clear were put on? Do you know the mill thickness? If you burn through you are going to be in a world of hurt, you will have to blend the paint and re clear the whole panal. Only advice I can start with is if you have your heart set on this start at 2000 grit then 2500 and then polish out.
It's got four coats of clear, and it's only orangepeeled on the rear quarter panels and the doors. I'll try it with 2000 then 2500 and see how it works. I don't really have access to a buffer right now, would it be okay to polish it out by hand? Or should I wait until I can get a buffer?
Well 4 coats of clear is a little over kill so yes you should have plenty of room to 2000 wet sand and then I would defiantly wait until you have a buffer. And I mean a good one. Not one of those $20 hand helds take you just as long to do it by hand and it will take days by hand. Do a panel at a time. Don't get in over your head and wet sand the whole car then try to buff it all at once unless you have nothing else better to do for an entire day.

take a thin sponge like a kitchen sponge, wrap the 2000-2500 around the sponge, and very lightly wet sand the entire car with water and a dab of dawn soap. you should be good. you can get a cheap orbital buffer like from a pawn shop and pick up some bonnets from advanced auto. get a whool and terry clothe bonnet
A dewalt buffer goes for like 100 bucks.. I'd pay 100 dollars for a minty paint job but 2000 grit wont do a lot about the orange peel. Ive done show cars before with nice coats of Finish1 clear and started at 800 grit and worked my way up to 3000. But ofcourse this is on a show car and Very carefully because as posted above you can easily burn the edges.. You can HONESTLY simple cut it with a 1200-1500 grit/ buff/glaze and call it a day. This will leave you with the minor factory orange peel
