Default Cooling/Engine Problem Please Help!

First of all I have not got my car running right since engine swap, which is an H23a vtec blue top. The car is a 00 accord manual, ECU is PCB.

Ok so what is happening is
1. I have black liquid coming out of the exhaust pipe(No smell to the liquid)
2. Engine is running rough (Shaking, little above 1k idle)
3. Non working temp gauge(properly read hot all time even after car has been sitting)

Apparently the 00 accord wire harness temp gauge ran of of the ECT sensor, but this H23 vtec has a one wire sending unit. So what I did is got a 99 Accord harness with the one wire on harness, because mind didn't have it.

So I thought that would work but did not. Now I have an aftermarket temp gauge still read hot, also wired in a fan switch which comes on only when car is off.

I am at a loss and don't know what to do please help. Also don't have money for the car to get looked at.

Sounds like it has a blown head gasket

I would start with a compression test before doing anything to that motor since if it's bad you may be junking it anyhow.

so a blown head gasket can occur even if it hasn't been driven.

also I don't have bubbles or coolant in oil

The thing that concerns me is the black liquid coming through the exhaust like you said. It could be lots of things not just a blown head gasket.

is there a check engine light on? make sure you have the right amount of coolant in the system and the cooling system is bled.

1) regardless of check engine light on or not, you should scan for codes... pending and stored codes will not turn check engine light on.

2) compression test is a good guide also -black liquid in the exhaust is probably carbon/water mixture could be from leaking valves or carbon buildup in intake manifold

3) you changed the complete wiring harness but using old ECM? Both years use same ECM so why wouldn't they be same harness. I may not be understanding that part well. ECT if reads hot all the time means there is a short to ground....or no resistance within sensor

Also many cars rely on the ECT to adjust fuel input... cold reading usually dumps more fuel, hot reading, less....point being this could be the runnability issue you are having

There is not a check engine light and no codes as far as jumping for codes. I don't have obd2 scanner and too afraid to drive to O'Reillys.

That will have to wait but as soon as I can I will post

I had a 00 accord harness but because the engine has the ECT sensor and the one wire sending unit sensor I grabbed a 99 accord harness.

Also I have read that with the separate sending unit wore I have to change my 00 accord cluster to a 99 cluster because the circuit board are different.

also sorry if my explaining is bad, I have trouble explaining exactly what's wrong

Im sorry I kept adding info while you are trying to answer.... I think I would've tried changing the sensors to fit what you already have...sensors should be same size threading

when you swapped motors you went from h23 to h23a blue top (just so i know I'm "getting" u)
