Default prelude power gains?

hi im new to honda's i normally drive a turbochared wrx and also tune it my self since thats now my track car i went out and bought a prelude vti-r with a h22a4 completely stock and i love it if you ask why i went for it its because i simply like the power and the amount of revs i cant get out of a 4 cyl n/a car

but it never ends here ive read up on tuning it with s300 hondata and all that but i dont want to go that far although abit more throttle response and torque would be nice, i noticed that my vtec kicks in around 5k (in 2nd load dependent) but before that its gutless i think it should hit vtec just that little earlier :/ im here to ask if i change these parts WITHOUT tuning it will i see gains?? i know not much but will it be worth spending the money

the only mod that has been done iss the air resonator in the gaurd has been removed so there for it has a so called CAI and i run 98 octane

planned mods

- vtec controller? do these work and are they any good i would like to set it around 4500
- exhaust headers? to stock exhaust or will i see more gains with a full 2.5" exhaust?
-skunk 2 manifold?
-70mm throttle body? if i just change the throttle body with no tune i should see gains right? since its map tuned from factory?

wich mod should benifit me most without a tune?
thanks guys

Your best mod without a tune would be weight reduction.

if you are not tuning your new mods like intake, header and exhaust, you really won't be gaining much at all.
You would actually gain more power tuning a bone stock motor.

On a FWD wider rims and sticky tires will make a world of difference. IMO this is a good place to start. Plus no tune!

If you want to see power gains drops cams in and tune on S300 or NepTune. This is a good starting place for engine mods.

As a new Honda owner it is probably important to point out that stock out of the factory your engine is pretty much engineered to the apex of N/A. Therefore simply putting money into the intake or exhaust isn't really going to give you much.

It may serve you well to check out the FAQ...

Here I picked one for you.

^ that is untrue and completely outdated.
I gained about 25whp from a intake/header/exhaust and tune.
So what you are saying is to drop in cams on the stock intake, header and exhaust?

It should also be noted that Azn used QUALITY parts, not chinese no name junk. An Ebay header isn't going to make the power a good header will, and a cheap exhaust wont flow like a good 2.5 or 3" mandrel bent exhaust.

For the initial cost, a good tuning system is the best investment, as you can use it through any mods down the road. I went with a piggyback controller at first, and ended up selling it and buying S300. The difference in cost between the controller and harness, and the new ecu with S300, was under 300 dollars, and I should never have the need for another ecu, even with a big turbo setup.

The only thing to keep in mind is if you live in an area where the car must pass an OBDII test, you may be limited to a piggyback to stay legal.
