Default Vtec

I have been doing some research on putting a y8 head on my d16y7 block. One post said that if I got the CPU from the other car I would need to flash my key. But another thread said that he just ran a wire from the solenoid to the new CPU and it ran fine. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It's called a minime swap. More than one link on how it's done in the FAQs. It's also a complete waste of time wile you're running that tall geared transmission.

Is there any reason you persist to post these same questions as if you're going to find some big way to make horsepower that no one has yet figured out?

VTEC is not this magic bullet you think it is.

Dude...I already told you everything you needed to know about a mini-me swap in the first thread you made, three threads ago. Just stop. You need to read. We aren't going to hand you free answers, especially when they're all already out there in the FAQs sticky. The stickies are your friend. Read them.

Dam man stop reposting the same questions. No a 97 Civic has no immobilizer/chipped key. For those those do have one and are looking for answers to this question if you stay OBD2B then you need to take the car into Honda and have them flash the ECU for the cars key. Only OBD2B has immobilizers IIRC. This is not needed if you are doing an OBD1 conversion. Seriously as many have already told you google search and you are wasting your time on D series upgrades. Piece a turbo kit together or swap in a B series, any B series will be 100 times better to work with than any D series ever will be.

OBD2B Civics don't have immobilizers - that's on the Integra.

I thought the 99-00 Civic had them but I could be wrong and Accords have them well all Hondas have them now.

I did google searh it and I can across the link saying I had to flash the key. And I came across the other link that didn't say anything about it. So I was just wondering. Why can I not upgrade my engine without everyone being rude about it? I have my reasons and would like to do the mini swap.

Beacause ! you're ignoring advice from the ppl that know what they're talking about. And keep insisting on dumping money into a car with 100hp if you're dead set on the head swap go for it...but i have a feeling you'll be posting about something going wrong during the process. You'r car may "feel/sound" faster but at the end of the day no...a y8 with all bolt on's may push 115-120whp TOPS that's pretty slow when you think about it.

YOu're just as bad as the OP with the mis-information.

SOMEbody show me this link says says if you do a minime you have to "flash the key" because that's a bunch of garbage.

Got a mini-me swap myself (though mine was done out of necessity/mistake--blew headgasket years ago and had the wrong head sent to me, so I rolled with it).
But that's beside the point.
5-10 years ago, yeah it was worth it and yeah it was kinda cool. But now it's barely worth the effort and money to do one.
You want gas mileage? Stick with what you got.
You want more power? Swap or boost.
Listen to ze Grumbler.

But it's SOOO COOL when it crosses over! XD
Meh, OP, just enjoy the gas mileage or drop in a B20Z to have some instant torque

I can tell you what's wrong with that link without even clicking it. That's a 7G. 01-05. Does not apply at ALL to what you're so convinced you "need".
