Default fitment questions regarding 96 accord auto trans

Hello all-

I'm brand new here and tried searching for my answer, with no luck. If it's easier to provide a link to an existing post, I'll take it.

I have a 96 accord 4cyl vtec w/ the auto trans. The rear main seal has been leaking and since the trans shifts harder than I'd like and (among a few other things) and since the car has 243,xxx miles on it, I've decided to replace the trans when I replace the rear main seal.

I'm planning on going with a jdm trans and from what I can tell, many of the transmissions I've found on the various JDM sites/ebay specify their trans as "non-vtec". I can't find the part #s to compare vtec/non-vtec trans.

1. Will a "non-vtec" auto trans for an f-22 fit/work right with a vtec engine? (Is there any difference with the trans, etc?)

2. Are their any JDM trans suppliers I should avoid? I'm personally ruling out getting anything from Canada as I live in Arizona and the shipping is just too much.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

You should be fine. While the innards might not be interchangeable between the JDM and USDM trans, they should be interchangeable as a whole.

Also, the 'non-vtec' trans will work.

The non vtec tranny will work fine but they way to go is with a h22 auto trans . There dirt cheap because nobody wants them and as long as they come with the converter ( make sure you ask) they are alot better tranny. They even have a auto lsd version thats dirt cheap . Make sure there for a prelude 94-97. They didnt make 1 auto h22 them years in usa so not many people think about using them . Auto h23 non vtec tranny is a good tranny as well.
