Shifts into drive fine and key comes out fine...have to shift into neutral and lift ebrake to park car....should I junk the car or is this fixable?? I NEED HELP

There is a switch on the brake pedal that operates a solenoid that unlocks the gate to get into park. Swictch could be bad, need adjustment, or solenoid is bad, to name a few.

The key can be removed without the transmission being in Park? Seems like an issue with the shift interlock. Can you place a key into the overide slot and place the car into Park that way?
