Icon2 oil restricter

i have a 90 civic si thats turbod. i got a 16g turbo on it and ive heard from some people to get an oil restricter plate so that my turbo doesnt get full oil pressure so it wont blow the seals but other people say theyve never used one and ran fine. is it really that necessary?

It all depends on cartridge design and oil pressure of your engine... If you would have searched you would know that already... So, you only gave us half of the equation.

I run a .63 restrictor those cheap obx ones on my Garrett. So far so good but I don't like the idea... If it can handle more oil and cool better I'd rather run a 3an with none.

Max pressure 75psi

Not on the 16Gs. If its a genuine MHI cartridge, there may not be a need to run one, because of the fact that those cartridges like oil and are very robust. But you need to check your oil pressure before installation and at cold start and see. More than likely you won't need one on that.

Which 16G did you get? Radius flange DSM 16G (Big / "small") Evolution 16G6? which one?

Not trying to threadjack, but i just installed a precision 5858 jb unit. Havent cranked the car yet.. But i did install a .65 restrictor on it and am running a 3an feed. I emailed precision and they told me no restrictor is needed. Just wanted more clarifiction before i run the restrictor....

That's not a "yes" or "no" kind of question. Precision has a habit of suggesting that, but then don't ask you what you're oil pressure is at the line at cold start or WOT. All depends upon the engine application, and oil pressure. Sometimes it requires one, sometimes it doesn't.

I'll just put it like this. Better to have it and not need it, then to need it, and not have it.

I have seen an ls-v turbo blow oil upon start up because he had all crank case ventalation caped off due to prior storage. once the cap was removed off the valve cover the oil stopped blowing out of the turbo. So there could be a correlation to how much crank case ventalation you have. I run a -3 oil line to the turbo without a restricter and breather box, and no problem with oil blowing past the seals.
